Pitt game by game preview

I saw some guy do it on the Pitt Rivals board, so i thought i'd do my own here.

I'm under the same impression as Coach Wannstedt, that Pitt can beat any team on their schedule if they play well.


Game 1-at Utah-Pitt will have a tough time. Utah doesn't lose in Salt Lake City very often, and Pitt is introducing a new QB. But Utah has a very inexperienced Defense. Pitt will use their great rushing attack with Lewis and Graham to break in Tino. Panthers open strong. 27-17

Game 2-New Hampshire- Pitt should have no trouble holding off the Wildcats. Tino gains some valuable experience and confidence and Pitt rolls out to 2-0 easily. 45-6

Game 3- Miami- Huge Game. ESPN Thursday Night game with two top 25 teams, Miami coming off a tough loss in Columbus will be hungry. Pitt is starting to click on both sides of the ball. Baldwin puts on a show against a good Miami secondary. Panthers keep climbing....34-27

Game 4- FIU- After a bye week, Pitt comes out a little rusty against the heavy underdogs. But after a quarter or two playing around, Pitt stops messing around and handles their business. 4-0 and cracking the top 10. 38-13

Game 5- at Notre Dame- AFter the best start in years, Pitt finds themselves in a tough game. The Irish are sitting at 2-3, against a top 10 opponent at home. Tino and co. face some adversity, but keep it close, and Coach Kelly keeps his personal streak against Pitt alive and Pitt's streak over the Irish end. Here is the annual Pitt disappointing loss early on. Irish with the upset. 24-21

Game 6- at Syracuse- With a grounding loss, Pitt is out to get a big win. And Luckily the worst BCS conference program is on the slate. Pitt puts up huge numbers and show no mercy to the clearly outmatched Orange. Pitt has no trouble in their Big East opener. 42-10

Game 7- Rutgers- This is starting to heat up into a Rivalry. Rutgers has good young talent in Savage and Sanu and they give Pitt trouble all game long, but the New Jersey kid Dion Lewis himself once again sticks it to Rutgers. He goes for a huge Heisman like day. Pitt improves to 2-0 in a hard fought victory. 34-27

Game 8- Louisville- The 6-1 Panthers are back in the top ten again and come into the Louisville game with staying untouched in the league. Pitt takes care of business in a no nonsense easy win over the lowly Cardinals. 38-14

Game 9- At Connecticut. In a battle of 7-1 teams on a Thursday Night game. Huge implications for either side. Pitt and UConn are very similar teams, run oriented with solid defenses. This turns into a defensive slugfest. Dion and Todman exchange scores and the teams trade FG's to go to a 17 all tie with a few minutes left, and Tino finally leads the team to a victory on the merit of his arm. Puts Pitt in scoring position and the 2nd straight season Pitt wins on a late Field Goal. 20-17

Game 10- at USF USF is a team that has talent but their record won't show how good they are. Pitt is going to struggle seeing their first running QB in Daniels. In the end Pitt is the more talented and better team and takes care of their business on the road,and remaining undefeated in Big East play. 28-17

Game 11- WVU- The Brawl has not let anyone down for 3 years in a row now. WVU and Pitt are each 5-0 on he league with 9-1 records overall. This is the Big East Championship. The last game at Heinz Field, once again becomes the de facto Title. This game is a battle between the little backs. Dion and Noel steal the show. Each with jaw breaking runs back and forth. In a tight 24 all tie late in the game, Pitt rallies off a huge drive resulting with Dion's 3rd TD and seals Pitt first BCS trip since '04.

Game 12-Cincinnati The River City Rivalry is a big game and no surprise the conference made it the last game again. But without Pike,Gillard,and Kelly. Cincy lost some luster. and Pitt has a whole hell of a lot of revenge. Pitt works the 8-3 Bearcats up and down the field. Pitt goes 11-1!! 42-24

Game 13-The ORANGE BOWL selects the Big East Champs with an unblemished conference record. And they face former conference foe, Virginia Tech. They are 12-1 themselves as they come in as the ACC champs. Pitt always had the Hokies number. But Tyrod Taylor provides the Panther D with some fits. I say its a close game, with each team trading blows. I'll give Pitt the nod. Panthers 28-24 12-1 record. Hey I am biased! But at the same time, there is not a team on Pitt's schedule that is clearly going to beat Pitt. I think if you rank Pitt and their 12 opponents, Pitt is the best team, with Miami making a good case though. Dion Lewis is a top 2 RB with Mark Ingram. Baldwin is a freak, and I believe Tino Sunseri is going to come out of the season as a very good QB. The Defense is there, and hopefully have no fluke games like Cincinnati last season. 12-1 is not out of the question. They are the best team in their conference. and the nonconference games are winnable. I LOVE Pitt's chances.

6-6 now that is a much more realistic Pitt Football prediction.

We need to soften up the schedule though, maybe drop New Hampshire for Penn State. 7-5 would be better.

Be Careful...New Hampshire might be the top team in the Big East after expansion and keeping Pitt from winning the Big East Title again. Let's hope not. That Big East schedule is a nightmare as is.

What's funny about those teams that you just mentioned is that teams much like them a.k.a Cincy, UConn, Louisville, and USF have come in to your conference as nobodies and contended. Every one of the teams I just mentioned from the big east were looked at as equal or worse to the teams you mentioned from the Big 10 prior to joining the Big East. Now they are conference powerhouses....hmmmm.
