WESTPAC WEEK 9
WESTPAC WEEK 9
5-1 last week, 45-3 overall. Windber is getting healthy and looking like a contender, while North Star is starting to fade. Last week of the regular season
Let me know if you guys want me to do a D5 playoff preview also.
Conemaugh Valley (0-8) @ Portage (6-2)
The Blue Jays are coming off another loss to Conemaugh Twp. Next week’s game against Ferndale is going to be their best chance at getting a win this year. Portage is coming off a defeat over Ferndale. The Mustangs need to win this game to have a home game in the first round of the D6 A playoffs. I can see them winning one game in the playoffs, but winning more than one would surprise me. Good luck to Portage and represent the WestPac well in the playoffs.

North Star (5-3) @ Conemaugh Twp. (7-1)
North Star is coming off a loss to Windber in a game I thought they would win. Windber is getting healthy, but with the Cougars having a such a good passing game and I can’t see why they aren’t as good as they should be. This game is huge for North Star. If they win, they will host a game in the 1st round of the playoffs but if they lose they fall to #6 and would play CT next week. Meanwhile, The Indians are coming off a win over Conemaugh Valley. They look like a serious contender at the D5 crown. There is a lot on the line for North Star in this game, but CT should still win in a close one.
CT 28
NS 21
Shade (2-6) @ Blacklick Valley (3-5)
The Panthers started off 2-1, but after that they have been in a downward slide. Next year, I think they could have a chance at getting 4 wins. The Vikings are coming off a loss to Berlin. That loss ended up knocking them out of the playoffs. Hats off to QB Victor Manda. He is a good quarterback and it is sad to see it end this week. They should roll in his last game of his high school career.

Shade 6
Meyersdale (3-5) @ Rockwood (3-5)
This is the biggest game of the year for both teams as the winner will be the final seed in the playoffs. Meyersdale is coming off a loss to Chestnut Ridge last week while Rockwood got a win over Shade. Watching both teams play, I think that Rockwood could pull an upset if their passing game is clicking. It is a Saturday game and senior day at Rockwood. A lot of factors are looking like they could go in Rockwood’s favor, but I think their inability to have a decent running game will hurt them in the end. The Red Raiders win a nail bitter.

Freedom Academy (1-0) @ Ferndale (0-8)
According to maxpreps, Freedom has only played 1 game this year. I really don’t understand that. I know nothing about the team so it’s hard for me to pick a winner. If Ferndale doesn’t win this game, they will play at Conemaugh Valley next week. Hopefully when it is all said and done Ferndale wins this game and CV wins next week. I’m going to take Freedom to win this game however.

GAME OF THE WEEK
Berlin (8-0) @ Windber (5-3)
This game has been circled all year for area fans of the WestPac. The last 4 meetings between these schools have all been won by Windber (28-21, 47-38, 42-35, 47-44) and have come down to the last minute. A lot of bad blood is boiling in this starting to become a big rival. Berlin comes into the game finally favored against the Ramblers. Windber is healthy and they look like they could be a surprise team in the playoffs. People counted them out after 3 straight losses, but they are back with a big win over North Star. This game I don’t think will be a shootout like it was the past 3 games. I think Berlin plays too good of defense to allow that to happen. The Ramblers have some playmakers though that can put up points in a hurry. I still think Berlin wins though just because no one has come close to stopping Ian Sayler this year and if you can’t do that you won’t beat Berlin.

My personal opinion, i think Berlin should get it because of the better record in the end. I think they will split it though.

Re: WESTPAC WEEK 9
i would disagree to, what if berlin had played ridge and c.t had played ligonier, the rules are in place for a reason, won loss record of the westpac games only. remember also the berlin game may have turned out different had you went to their place as c.t. did. ridge plays great at home and has a great following, hard to beat them in their housebbsocceralumni wrote:My personal opinion, i think Berlin should get it because of the better record in the end. That is debatable but both teams gotta win Friday first.thebrigade wrote:i would disagree to, what if berlin had played ridge and c.t had played ligonier, the rules are in place for a reason, won loss record of the westpac games only. remember also the berlin game may have turned out different had you went to their place as c.t. did. ridge plays great at home and has a great following, hard to beat them in their housebbsocceralumni wrote:My personal opinion, i think Berlin should get it because of the better record in the end. Re: WESTPAC WEEK 9
i still think c.t. will win but they are probably still going to be holding out some of the kids that had concussions, for the playoffs and i hope they do because being healthy for the playoffs is more important then co champs imo, they have the 3 seed no matter what and i really want a full healthy squad for the playoffs. westpac cochamp is nothing compared to district 5 champion. i mean portage has been westpac champs for years but district 5 champ continues on in the playoffs for the elite 8
