12th Man Show Week 12 Preview
This week on the 12th Man Show we inch closer to chocolate town. With some districts crowning their champions this weekend and others a couple weeks away, the number of teams vying for a state championship is getting shorter. This weeks coachspeak is a little different. The Funkster steps in to help out and talks with Cedar Cliff head coach Jim Cantafio as he gives us his opinion on catholic league teams in the P.I.A.A.
The Godfather moves out of district 12 this week and recaps Downingtown East @ North Penn. A special treat as we have West Catholic grad Huck Palmer on the show to preview the Burrs & Wildcats in District 12. Joby Fawcett of the Scranton Times Tribune gives us his take on the district 2 class AA final between Lakeland & Wilkes-Barre G.A.R. Stephen Miller of the Allentown Morning Call recaps Central Catholic/Southern Lehigh and previews the monster matchup North Schuylkill @ Northern Lehigh.
Return of Keklak. District 6 guru and trojannation.net owner Doug Keklak recaps Clearfield and Johnstown. Last week we had Eric Epler of the Patriot News. This week we bring on his colleague Andy Shay as he talks about Cumberland Valley and Wilson in district 3 Class AAAA action. Any chance of getting Rich Vetock, Phil Cmor, Steve Franco, Kerry Naylor, Guy Cipriano, Kenny Varner, Mike Mastovich, Eric Knopsnyder, Eli Nellis, Dustin Fillow or somebody else OTHER than Keklak from D5 & 6 in the future? With the exception of Rich they all write for newspapers around the area. No offense to the Keklak guy, he loves his Trojans, but there are 58 other schools in the D5&6 region. Just a thought.

Ghost, I am just curious if you have ever actually listened to any of my appearances on the 12th Man Show? The reason I say this is not be sarcastic or a wiseguy, I'm really being sincere.
A few weeks ago, following the Johnstown/Forest Hills game, my main reason for being on the show was to do a playoff preview in which I spoke about all four D6 brackets and the 5-A bracket.
Yes, when I'm on the show I normally lead with Johnstown and you're right I do love my Trojans and I make no apologies for that. But I also have been prepared to speak about the rest of the LHAC and D5 and D6 every time the guys have been nice enough to call me and have me on.
Those are great newspapermen you mention and I'm sure any of those guys would do a great job on the show, but I think the non-traditional media perspective is also interesting. Edsel talks a lot on the show about "helmetheads", people that just love and have a passion for high school football. He and QB are definitely in that category as am I. I'm sure MANY of the Bleacher Coaches regular posters feel the same way about themselves.
The Godfather mentioned above, is a man named Armand Vanore. Outside of Ted Silary, I've heard no one breakdown the Philadelphia Public and Catholic League as well as him. To the best of my knowledge, he owns his own business and is not a traditional member of the media.
My point is, if you have the passion for this stuff, it should not matter if you're a member of the traditional print media. If you can speak on it in a well-informed, intelligent manner (which I hope I do as a guest) then you should be fine. I think QB and Edsel do a great job of getting a good mix of print media, radio guys, digital media, bloggers, etc on the show and that gives it a unique, well-rounded feel.

Doug, I know who the Godfather is, I’ve listened to the show all of last year and this year. As far as traditional versus non-traditional media --- that’s fine and you're right, you do a good job on the show. I’ve heard 3 of your interviews this year, but I can’t remember if you’ve done more than that. I know you drive from Pittsburgh to see Johnstown play, so I wonder how many teams you get to see other than who your Trojans are playing.
I’m not knocking you, my position was that there are various people who cover football all over the district. I guess what I was trying to say was that District 6 doesn’t revolve around Johnstown. It’s a moot point now because 3/4 finalists this weekend are from the LHAC and the Johnstown area, which is great and I wish them well.

Not a problem Ghost, I can understand what you're saying. My in-person game attendance really is limited for the most part, to the LHAC. I used to get out on Saturdays and catch some WestPAC games if I was staying in Johnstown for the weekend but I really haven't done that since I stopped blogging regularly on the district over at PennLive. (Stay tuned, I may revive that blog for the 2011 season and make more of a commitment).
I'm a Trojan fan first, but I always want teams from our area to advance and do well. I really want D6 to bring that second state title home but I doubt this is the year. I really like Forest Hills, but I just can't see them getting past Aliquippa.
