Somerset's Head Coaching situation

With costea gone things have really turned around quickly. Does anyone think this is just a coincidence?

It could be that the better players came through at the same time of Costea leaving. It is the opposite of the Central Cambria situation where they are having a down year for talent, and Buzzard left. The new coach catches the blame but it could have happened to any coach that stepped in. Cambria Heights has a similar situation with Somerset. The junior class is good and anyone could see that from a 6-1 record they posted in freshmen year, the new coach steps in and gets some credit. I think in both the Somerset and C. Heights situations, the players deserve a lot of credit. They kept working through coaching change and turned things around themselves. A coach can do only a little bit. The players play and I believe thats what we are seeing here.

The players ALWAYS deserve the most credit but what a coach emphasizes throughout the week is evident on the playing field.

The biggest change I see is points allowed.

Both coaches are emphasizing defense and it is showing on the scoreboard.

In the past, Somerset spent their entire practice trying to emulate Navy's flex bone leaving little time for D.

I saw them vs PC and CC and they really fly to the football.

So give the coaches some credit as well.

The kids at Cambria Heights deserve alot of the credit they work hard and are a unique bunch of kids they just needed someone who cared about them and the program whole heartedly in season and out 365 days a year and that's exactly what they got. Congrats to Heights they made the right decision hats off to that coaching staff.

In GENERAL, I agree with the assertion it's mostly the players.

In these two SPECIFIC instances, it's mostly the coaching changes. As noted, both previous coaches spent a lot of time working on razzly dazzly offenses that put up lots of yards and lots of points but very few Ws.
New coaches are focusing on defense and line play and good things follow and will continue to follow.

In Somerset I will agree the talent has improved since last year and they do have a solid line and a very good looking young QB. I also do see more intensity from the kids, so I will have to credit the current staff for some of that. I have lived in Somerset most of my life and played high school football here. I have known Costea for a long time and even at one point played for him. Costea is a good hearted guy that really does care about the kids and Somerset High School in general. The things that I have heard people saying and the classless act that happened at the pep rally truly is embarrassing for Somerset Football and the entire school district. For the kids to carry out the act and for the parents, boosters, and COACHES that were there to allow this to happen makes me sick. Hopefully Somerset School District shows some class and does something to correct this. I will agree that it was time for a change is Somerset, however I am very tired of hearing people say that Costea was the blame for Somerset being down. The only year Costea had any real talent to work with he did a pretty good job coaching. They won 7 or 8 games and beat a Johnstown team in probably the best high school game I have ever witnessed and Johnstown was a pretty talented team with a stud named Reed. Somerset has had very few kids over the last 15 to 20 years that had the talent to play college football at any level. People in Somerset seem to forget about the Krevetski and Fetzer years two of the biggest names in the LHAC and they had very little success in Somerset and I know it wasn't because they forgot how to coach when they came here. So to all you parents and boosters that want to continue to blame Costea you really need to look in the mirror because after all you are where the talent comes from.
