WPAC Week 5

North Star (4-0) vs Meyersdale (3-1)
The Cougars keep rolling and made easy work of the Panthers last week (bummer for the miscreants who picked Shade). The Cougars and the Indians stand atop the WestPac conference with unblemished records and I see the Cougars cruising until their final two games of the season. If the Cougars can stay healthy the crown is theirs to lose.
Meyersdale squeaked by the Blue Jays last week in a game with much controversy (or so I hear). I had heard the officiating was not in the Blue Jay favor. Blah Blah- I'm sure the coaches preach to their players NEVER leave the game in the hands of the officials. The bottom line is Meyersdale got the "W" and have an impressive 3-1 record (without Hoover). However, I can only see them pulling out (at the most) two more wins the remainder of the season. The win over the Blue Jays could be HUGE come playoff time.
But this game should be over by halftime.

Portage (3-1) vs Windber (3-1)
Well, I picked the Ramblers last week and they dropped the ball... I hope it doesn't carry over to this week. This game could turn into a very interesting football game. I am very tempted to drive down to Portage this week and watch this game first hand. The Ramblers couldn't stop the dangerous air attack of the Indians and Bryja and Bimle have been lights out the last few weeks. I would imagine that Windber will spend lots of time this week preparing to stop the pass.
Portage has a rough stretch of games the next three weeks (Windber, Township and Ridge).
This will be Portage's first "big" game of the season. They sputtered at the beginning of the season but Gouse is a good coach and will have his boys primed to play. The game being AT Portage makes me think the Mustangs call pull off the upset.
Depending on what the word is on some of Windber's injuries I may change the score...but I think the outcome will be the same...

Berlin (2-2) vs Shade (1-3)
Berlin is coming off back to back losses and couldn't be happier hosting the Panthers who have been knocked around the last few weeks. Berlin played a decent game last week but just couldn't find the endzone. They should have no problems doing that this week.
It's disappointing to see Shade struggle so much with the athletes they have. They just can't get a balanced attack on offense and they have not played great defense all year. They need to strap it up this week and stay tough. The year could get ugly if these boys thrown in the towel.

Conemaugh Valley (1-3) vs Rockwood (1-3)
Those poor Blue Jays...they had the opportunity to put the West Pac in a doozy if they had won last week. They would have had the opportunity to be in 3rd place!!!(following this week) I really feel for these kids after being embarrassed the last two years. I didn't think they would back up the "W" with a strong performance but they proved me wrong. Their defense is ranked IN THE STATE for INTS. They just can't seem to get the offense firing. When you can't outscore your opponents...you won't win many games regardless of how good your D is. I was surprised to see that between Furman and Uncapher - the two only touched the ball a combined 13 times all game... These are the Jays playmakers...how can they only touch the ball 5-6 times a game!?! The Jays should be able to put a nice showing up for their homecoming crowd this week but the loss to Meyersdale might end up being a back breaker later in the season.
Rockwood changed some things up offensively to get their first "W" of the year.
I think the Blue Jays will win this game upfront.

Ferndale (0-4) vs. Blacklick Valley (0-4)
Well, we will only have one winless team after this week in the West Pac (which is a change to previous seasons). Ferndale couldn't luck out last week when Rockwood started to run at the Jackets. It's no secret Blacklick will try to do the same. I think Ferndale presents a more balanced attack but I think Blacklick has the better athletes. I'd love to pick the Jackets...but

not sure why a top 3 that has 5 defensive players is on here. that should be a separate topic..

secondly, ridge travels to township. third not sure why you think n.s. will put over 54 on a meyersdale team that is supposed to be getting hoover back. n.s. has scored 30 points the first 3 games and only hit 40 this week. windber and township are the teams that have been putting up the big scores. windber is a very good team and will bounce back and put up a big game against portage. township is balanced with both the run and pass. portage will put the ball in the air but with one or two go to guys, windber will shut that down. their def line is also very big and fast and portage will have to run to the outside with jesse in order to gain yards. i dont see windber passing more then 8 times, bryan will be the key player on their offensive attack

I dont think North Star will beat Meyersdale hat badly. Im sure they have some momentum coming off that wn against cv last week. Portage will lose to windber because this just isnt a normal portage team. Blacklick will be ferndale easy. Valley should beat rockwood and climb closer to .500

all these picks are way to high scoring for these smaller westpac schools. cv and rockwood arent gonna combine for 40, and same thing goes for blacklick and ferndale, meyersdale wont put up 21 though against the cougars, just an opinion but i dont see it in the red raiders just yet, call me crazy

Last week vs Portage at the Point Stadium, Blacklick Valley started four freshman on defense and two seniors. Offensively they only started two seniors (a linemen and a wideout). Johnny Sheesley, the QB at Blacklick Valley, is very athletic. #27 Grant Riegel rushed for over 100 yards but maxpreps had no stats for him in week 2 and 3 so apparently he was hurt. From what I see, BV should have a solid team the next few years. I think they could finish with three wins this season when I look at their schedule (Ferndale, CV and Shade).
