Penn State Has Embarrassing 1st Half on Saturday....
First of all, we all know it is hard to play on the road. The game started at 3:30, and by the end of the 1st half, it was all but over. Letting the home team get that far ahead surely was the kiss of death. Coming out for the second half must have been tough, down by that much. It was a game in which they were to make a statement. Of course, I'm talking about PSU's men's basketball game at St. Joe's. The score at halftime was 33-10, in favor of the Hawks. How can you play an entire 20 minutes of D-I b-ball and ONLY score 10 points? That's ONE point every 2 minutes. At one point, PSU was losing 22-2. Stats for the game were atrocious. PSU was 19-71 from the field on the day. That's 52 MISSED shots!!!! Veteran Tim Frasier all by himself was 4-19 in field goal attempts. I'm anxious to see the headlines in the Sunday Tribune. When PSU got slaughtered by Kentucky last Saturday, the headlines in the Tribune read, "Kentucky Hands Penn State First Loss". Now we'll read, "PSU Falls on the Road", or "St. Joe's Stops Penn State". And by the way, the first half of the football game wasn't much better.
Re: Penn State Has Embarrassing 1st Half on Saturday....
Hey. I just about had it right. The front page story in today's Tribune read "Quick Start Helps Hawks in Easy Victory Over Nittany Lions". How benign. We've been over this before about how the local paper favors PSU. You can see it all the time in their headlines. Take for example yesterday's PSU's football loss to Wisconsin. Was that a slaughter or what? Yet today's headlines for that debacle was "Penn State Loses Big Ten Title Shot". Yet the headline after Pitt's loss to WVU the day before read, "Pitt Blows Lead in Loss at WVU". Why is one so generic, and one so inflammatory? Even if it is true about Pitt losing a lead late in the game, why doesn't the Tribune use it's headlines to tell the whole story about PSU's games? The day after PSU men's B-ball lost to Kentucky by 38 points, their headline read "Kentucky Hands Penn State First Loss". On the same page in the tribune that day, the headline for the St. Francis men's loss to Bucknell by only 31 points read, "Bucknell PUMMELS St. Francis". Isn't a 38 point loss MORE of a pummeling than a 31 point loss? Why demean St. Francis but uplift the Nittany Lions? When you have several children, should you pick out a favorite or treat them equally? The Tribune has their favorite son. It shows time and time again.

Wasn't sure which topic to put this under, but what's the story with PSU's bowl game (Jan 2, noon) being televised on ESPNU?
