D5 Rankings

I posted some individual rankings over at Bfly's site. We'll get the formatting kinks worked out for next update. The rankings should clear up some after Somerset and NBC get further into their seasons and have more matchups with the other D5 squads.

106 and 170 are wide open, with 145, 152, and 160 perhaps being the toughest weights in the district.

152 was the most difficult weight to judge, it was tough to leave Heffner and Darr out.

Ridge won by 10. I believe 35-25. Pretty exciting match, Pfaunmillers pin second to last match clinched it.

yeah Ridge 35-25 not a bad match.. Nice falls by Clarr, Paunmiller and Albright.Berlin has a nice team. I was impressed. Good job by both teams.

Nice thanks Odoyel! Here are some of my random thoughts.

106 - I agree with Claar at the top, he is the most talented kid there right now. After that it could go a lot of different directions with Warren, Foster, Guyer, and the Shade wrestler. Does anyone have a scoop weather Easter will be down or not? I mean he started out making 113, all he has to do is get to 108. It would be very easy for someone to lose 5 pounds in a few months time. I think we'll see him down there if he is certified there. At 106 I see Easter as a major threat to place top 2 on the podium at Hershey.

113 - Obviously it's all about Easter here, but if he goes down you would have to give the nod to Thomas assuming he goes down as well. We should find more out this weekend. Crouse teched Sanders last night which is real impressive.

120 - We all know it will come down to Roberts/Nolf at states, but maybe a Thomas or Replogle could ride their coattails at regionals for a ticket to Hershey.

126 - I don't know anything about the Hetrick kid, but I am looking forward to seeing Brett and Logsdon hook up this weekend. I give the nod to Logsdon though. Logsdon was so impressive as a frosh but really disappointed last year. Hopefully he uses last year as motivation this year.

132 - McKenzie is beatable so I wouldn't crown him just yet. I think Pfaunmiller is probably a little disappointed in a few of his loses this year, but he usually wrestles well at Windber, I could see him taking home another D5 crown. The younger Mostoller gives North Star another promising youngster. It should come down to Mostoller and NB's Corle for 3rd.

138 - I agree that Laue is the early favorite but if Tanner Cahill is anything like his brother, he will save his best for the postseason.

145 - This is a very fun weight. Your top 3 of Cahill, Gartland, and Lohr are very even and have similar styles and are all fun to watch IMO. I'm not sure but I think I saw Gartland was down to 138, so that might change some things.

152 - There has been plenty of talk about this weight already on this bored. Not really much to add to it as of now, we will find out a lot more this weekend. Who will stay, who will drop, who might go up?

160 - Three sophs at the top of Odoyels rankings. Sutton proved a lot in his domination of Koontz. Berkey is another MY kid i know nothing about.

170 - Dibert should win this weight easily. Would be nice to see Everett's Gibbons make it though, he has put in a lot of work over the years and would like to see it pay of for the kid with a trip to regionals.

182 - I can't believe Straiser has a chance to be a regional qualifier. This isn't one of the better weights in D5, but it is still impressive that he has put himself in this position. Has he ever wrestled? I'm pretty sure this is his first year varsity, I was just wondering if he had any experience before this year.

195 - Brett is no doubt the favorite. I have been real impressed with Albright. He took his lumps last year but is having a breakout junior year. The kid is really put together physically.

220 - I think we will see Hayman go at heavyweight, so we should see some more Krupa/Craig double leg fests. Would someone try something other than a double! It didn't work the first 5 times, try a single! Just kidding, but seriously. They should both make a nice postseason run though, as D6 and D7 are both down a bit at this weight in terms of depth.

285 - I was real surprised that Holsopple took it to Buttrey. Holsopple must have really improved since last year. I think Hixson/Hayman will be in the D5 finals with Buttrey needing to turn it around against Holsopple for 3rd.
