Pirates and Justin Upton

Just read that the Pirates are interested in Upton, and D-Back scouts have been watching the Pirates minor league teams this past week to put together a list of prospects they like. This would be a great trade, if NH could pull it off. Especially if they can do it without parting ways with Marte. Upton, Cutch, Marte in that OF for the coming years would be scary good. Upton is locked up through at least 2015. I'd be willing to part with almost anyone in the system for him. I wouldn't give up Cole and Taillon, Heredia, and would try to avoid moving Marte put wouldn't make him untouchable. Offer something like Taillon, one or two of the AAA lefties, Robbie Grossman, and another B or B+ prospect they like for Upton and go from there. But I think they'd have a hard time saying no to something like that.

I agree Jack. I wouldn't make anyone in the minor league system untouchable if we could pull Upton. I would give up one of the big 3(Cole, Taillon, Heredia), one of the AAA leftys, and 2 more B level guys in a heart beat. Upton has unlimited potential, would provide Cutch support in that lineup for the next 5 years, and he's just 24!

If the Bucs could pull Upton, I think they back off on adding another starting pitcher. I firmly believe that Garrit Cole will be in the Burgh in September.

To get Upton would be huge. My question is why are the D backs dealing him when he's under contract for couple more years. Did hear before trade talks started that Upton has chronic shoulder problems. Just seems odd they want to deal such a young player that they have under control.

believe I mis-spoke. I think Young is the one getting booed. Upton has been badmouthing D-Back ownership in local media; Although it sounds like the price tag for Quinten with the Padres isn't as high. I would like either, would love a left handed bat better. Also don't count out Soriano from the Cubs; although that would be a bad move in my opinion, his defense is beyond bad and with that much space in left, he could single handedly sink the Pirates ship.

Quentin is a rental, Upton is here through at least 2015. Some guys just need a change of scenery, I feel he is one of those guys. His ceiling is just as high as Cutch's. Those two together in the OF, and then those 2 and Pedro hitting 3-5 in the lineup would be quite the nucleus to have. I'd give up almost anything for Upton. Honestly only thing I wouldn't do is 2 of the big pitchers. Heck I'd even be willing to do one of them and Marte because Upton has a higher ceiling than Marte and makes Marte expendable. Plus I still believe Tabata can be a very very good OFer for this team, not ready to give up on him yet.

Here's a scenario I kinda like. Last year the Bucs made two bigger moves and a small one...How about a bat like Quinten or a smaller roleplayer with experience or pop and an insurance starter....Cole Hammels is 33 under contract for 2 years and a lefty, and supposedly on the block. After watching Cole and Tallion give up 5 hits and 3 runs combined in 2 innings against minor leaguers, I like the idea of insurance and the 3 man rotation of Burnett,Hammels and JMac going into the playoffs, they could hang with anyone.

Hamels is 28 and is a free agent after this season. He would be nothing more than a 3 month rental.

The latest word is that the D-Backs and Padres would both be interested in Brad Lincoln. Lincoln has been money lately, it would be tough to see him go, but I would give him up in an Upton trade if it meant holding on to one of the 'A' prospects. I would possibly deal Lincoln for Quinten straight up, but that's about it.

Persnoally, I'd prefer to send Hanrahan and move Lincoln to the closer role. We could get Upton and maybe a long shot prospect for Hammer, and a porspect. just an idea. But I'd like to keep Lincoln... the guys is money out of the pen.
