Clairton @ Char Houston

Post by animus »

Time to get some Week 1 Chat Started.

I'm going to have a lot of friends & family on hand from both sides here. Going to be a fun night. I tend to think the Bears should roll but anything can happen. The Bucs do have a QB in Kaleb Susco that can get the ball down field to his athletes like Hairston. And that's on top of their Jet Style option attack, which is essentially a Wildcat all game long. I do think Char Houston is a little under the radar this season. They did play both Brentwood & Bishop Canevin down to the wire and could've won both games. It is what it is and they came up short. Best of luck to the Bucs this Friday night.

Unsure where to start on the recap;

The Chartiers Houston Bucs certainly kept Tyler Boyd in check most of the game. Without making excuses for the Bears they did have 4 potential starters on the sideline due to academic probation. With that said, the Bucs passing attack was effective when Chartiers Houston needed it to be.

The game started slow with neither team scoring in the First Quarter and around the 9 minute mark the Bears got the first points on the board with a QB sneak. The XP attempt was no good; Bears 6-0

The Bucs then proceed to go three and out and botches the snap on the punt to give the Bears the Ball on the 25. A few plays later the Bears reach the end zone and gets a 2 Point conversion to go ahead 14-0.

Then the Bucs come roaring back with 2 long passing plays to make the halftime score 14-13 in the Bears favor.

The 3rd Quarter starts as slow as the 1st Quarter did as both teams exchanged turnovers & punts in the opening 6 minutes of the quarter. Then the Bears proceed to have 2 drives end inside of the 20 on failed 4th down attempts.

Around the 5:28 mark the Bears punch it in on a 25 yard TD pass to Tyler Bold and convert the 2 Point conversion to make the score 22-13.

The 4th Quarter started w/ the Bears punting deep in their own end, the snap was botched and Tyler Boyd ran around in the end zone and found Terrish Webb for a 90 yard TD pass to only come back due to an ineligible receiver down field.

Again both teams moved the ball a little only to have the defenses win out until the 2:13 mark when Kaleb Susko hit Miles Williamson on a 75 yard TD pass to make the game 22-19. Then came the most bizarre XP I've seen in my life, the ball hit the soccer net below the goal post and popped through the uprights and was called good. Score 22-20.

The Bucs then go for the onside kick that was recovered by the Bears. The Bears grab a first down and proceed to run out the clock.

The biggest story line of the game had to be PENALTIES, PENALTIES, PENALTIES.

Clairton certainly has tons of room for improvement as they head to Carlynton, and Chartiers Houston will have a lot of confidence heading to Bishop Canevin to take on the Cruisaders.

Thanks for posting this.

Do you think this is legitimate cause for concern or more like a wake up call as was the Laurel game.

Missing four guys at a small school makes a large difference however Char-Houston was not exactly picked to be in the top tier of the conference. It sounds like you think CH may surprise some people and matched up well though.

Honestly I think its a combination of a lot of things.

I do feel that CH is better than a lot of the preseason pundits have placed them. CH's secondary of Grant Foster, Miles Williamson, Javon Hairston, and Conner Craig was tipping passes and had a couple of Int's. CH's defense will keep them in a lot of games. On offense that host of players plus David Kincaid, and Jered Volcano will put some points on the board. I think we'll find out if CH is legit this Friday against Bishop Canevin. Personally I say CH wins by 2-3 TD's(if not more).

I do feel that there are some causes for concern for the Bears esp at the QB position. All three QB's put way too much air under the ball at times. And you can't do that against an athletic secondary like the Bucs had.

Clairton had 14 guys out due to ineligibility. Most of them where linemen so I'm unsure how it would've effected the Webb & Howard vs Foster & Williamson match up on the outside. If anything Boyd would've had more rushing yards. I think a fair score if Clairton's entire roster intact would be Clairton 35(+/- extra points) to Char Houston 20. I think Clairton will be fine. But I do think that the Bucs are going to make a serious run for 2nd place and long playoff run that could face the Bears again in the Semis or in Heinz.

How'd you find that? Are there any other WPIAL games available to watch like that?

I found it because Comcast aired the game. The only WPIAL games will be available are the ones that Comcast records.
