D-5 Predictions

Post by Lefteyelouie »

106 Gabriel
113 Charlton
120 Easter
126 Thomas
132 Miller
138 Brett
145 Cahill
152 Williams
160 Bollman
170 Dibert
182 Berkley
195 Nicholson
220 Bennett
285 Buttry

I have 11 1st seeds winning and 3 2nd seeds winning. Someone said they thought this would be a boring finals, maybe it will.

I'll take CR team champ

Laz coach of year.

Dibert OW in weak weight. Unless Crouse upsets Thomas he will get it.

113- 1. Charlton 2. Warren 3. DeArmitt
120-1. Easter 2. Claar 3. Swank
126- 1. Thomas 2. Crouse 3. Day
132- 1. Miller 2. Hetrick 3. Replogle
138- 1. Brett 2. Corle 3. Fochtman

195. 1. Nickelson 2. Albright 3. Trulick
220. 1. Bennett 2. Albright 3. Winegardner

overall i think most weights will finish like their seeds. I also think some weights are really strong while some are kind of weak. I think D-5 should represent well at SW region this year.

also question for Lefteye, do you think the OW should go by the winner of the strongest weight or maybe best performance at the tournament? Dibert will probably win it this year becase this will be his 4th title, but does that mean he deserves OW?

My opinion on OW would be-

It should go to best performance in a deep weight. I would already be looking at weights like 126 where you have a returning state qualifier seeded 3rd. 145 where you lots of solid wrestlers and 2 very high caliber. 160 that is a really deep weight. Some weights wouldn't even get a look. 113, 170, 182.

But 170 you have a guy going for his 4th which unless somebody has a great tourney in a tough weight I think he gets it.

Also look at 120 has 3 nice wrestlers. But Easter prob has 0% chance of winning OW this year because he is expected to win. But if either of the other 2 won they would prob. get it because they beat the most decorated wrestler in the district. Ryan would have to put on a show and dominate to have a chance..

106: Gabriel, Burkett, Clites; 113: Charlton, Warren, Dunlap; 120: Easter, Claar, Swank; 126: Crouse, Thomas, Day; 132: Miller, Replogle, Hetrick; 138: Brett, Corle, Fochtman; 145: Gartland, (older) Cahill, Diest; 152: Williams, (younger) Cahill, Miller: 160: Fochtman, Bollman, Lohr; 170: Dibert, Dunbar, There is no competition other than these two, ill go with Miller; 182: Berkley, Brett, Connor; 195: Nickelson, Albright, Trulick; 220: Albright, Bennett, Winegardner; 285: Hall, Buttry, Emerick;

What happened to Eric Grace of NB, real good wrestler. 170 is weak I didnt know who to pick for 3rd. I also believe that if Dunlap beats De'Armitt in the first round for the 2nd time he will get 3rd... IMO; I'm also going with Crouse over Thomas. Also Albright over Bennet I believe that is going to be one of the biggest upset if he beats Winegardner and Bennett.

Personally i think it should go by that tournaments performance not what a wrestler did in previous years. In previous years Roberts won OW and i agreed because he was the best wrestler in the tournament. I wouldnt be upset if Dibert won it this year but i think his weight is pretty weak after the top 2.

Agreed with lefteye, fans/coaches just assume he's going to win which is unfair to him in my opinion. I would put Easter at the top of my OW list (if he wins) but he really has 0% chance to win.

Swank is my dark horse for OW. Right now though I'd guess that he beats Claar but loses a tight match to Easter. If somebody beats 2 returning district champs then they are the frontrunner for OW ... oddly enough 120, 145, and 195 all have a pair of returning D5 champs. I don't see anybody touching the 195 frontrunners before the finals, and I don't think that Deist or the others at 145 will knock off the favorites there either.

As far as 4timers winning OW, if memory serves me correctly Roberts and Chesney did win it, Zimmerman and Gibbons did not. So I agree that Dibert is the leader right now, but I doubt that he wins it in the end.

Does anybody have a list of OWs through the years?
