HERITAGE WEEK 5

Post by HSfan »

Last week 4-1 and 19-1.

Saltsburg (0-4) 27
United (0-4) 14

The Trojans lost 24-14 to North Star, but were close in yardage, 242 to 319. Feshman Frankie Plowman now is the QB and Tyler Franssenei is a receiver. The Lions did not roar or do anything at PM but turnover the ball 3 times, 18 for the year and a -12 margin. They had a net of -2 yards.

Northern Cambria (1-3) 28
Purchase Line (1-3) 17

The Colts had 3 turnovers to 1 in losing at Blairsville 24-19, while gaining 343 to 218 yds. The Red Dragons run the ball well with 206 y/g while NC allows 248 y/g.

Marion Center (1-3) 14
Penns Manor (4-0) 30

The Comets not only held United to -2 yds they had 448 yds with 375 rushing. QB Lucas Kowalski had 130 yds on 10 attempts with 5 TDs. This is the Stingers 4th good opponent after Lig V, H-C and Blairsville.

Co-games of the Week

Windber (3-1) 21
Ligonier Valley (4-0) 28

Against M C the Rams won 29 to 8 but yardage was only 276 to 212 and 153 to 163 rushing. The Windber Ramblers have been strong the last 2 weeks winning 35-20 vs Brentwood and 47-0 at Blacklick Valley.

Blairsville (3-1) 14
Homer-Center (4-0) 28

The Wildcas continue to play well by beating P L 37-14 and up 37-6 after 3 Q's. They rush for 266 y/g and allow only 136. The Bobcats won 24-19 over N C without QB Scott Thompson who had 557 yds passing in the first 3 games. He maybe out for a few more weeks with a freak non-football knee problem.

All games Friday 7 pm.

Not sure how much of a hurry Thompson is in to get back. He stated to some people that he is more concerned about being ready for baseball. Baseball is his primary sport and having seen him play many times I think he will be offered multiple scholarships for that.

Word is that Frassenai is out this week with a concussion,. He is a huge part of everything that Saltsburg tries to do offensively, defensively and on special teams.

Either way Trojans win big. Also feel this is beginning of the end to blairsvilles conference championship goal. This week homer. Next week Penns manor and starting qb out. I see blairsville being 3-3 with 4 weeks to go.

LionDad.. I was at the Penns Manor United game and was surprised to see that United was dominated.(-2yards for the game). Did they have a bad game? Is there dissension on the team? I saw that United moved the ball well at times against Northern and Ligonier Valley. Is Holupka the right guy for the job?

Salt 34 U 12 United is getting better but has a long way to go.
HC 28 Bls 13 With Thompson in its a different game, line play will come into effect for hc... I still wouldn't be surprised if bls would win.
Pm 21 MC 12 Mc is quick and this game could be close until the very end.
NC 21 PL 14 Another clise game put nc pulls it off
Lig 34 Wind 21 Lig does not appear to be the team it has been in the past

Rudy...The team was about as bad as bad could be last year. They only returned I believe five letter men. Next year they will have 20+ They have a lot of underclassmen playing right now. Against Penns Manor they looked like last years team. The Indiana Gazette stats are always incorrect. I usually look at what they are on MaxPreps as the coaches generally add them after viewing film. Either way they still didn't manage to do much on offense.

They did stop the Comets on their first drive and forced a punt, United fumbled the punt return and PM scored, next series United punts and they snapped it over the punters head and take a -32 on that. next thing you know they are down 14 points quickly.

The big issue for them has been the turnovers. They had close to minus 35 yards on two botched punt snaps which skewed the yardage numbers a bit plus they lost yardage on the 4-5 sacks, so it sounded worse then it was. Once they actually start tackling and taking care of the ball they have talent. Sometimes one of the hardest tasks is getting kids that have been losing to believe in themselves that they can win.

Their JV team has beaten good NC and PM teams, so I do think Holupka is the guy. He is a United guy and is turning things around there, it's just taking longer than most people anticipated.

The NC game was ridiculous and anyone who watched it no matter where they are from would say the same. That should have been maybe a 21-14 game or so, the officials impacted that contest more than any game I have ever seen. The best was when United got called for a block in the back on defense. On the broadcast on IUP-TV you can see the ref tell the NC coaches it was a block in the back on #17, the replay shows #17 cracking back on the United player and it was a block in the back. NC scored a TD on the play. Next thing you know the refs confer with each other the call gets reversed against United and the TD is good. Holupka asks what the call was and they throw another.

We'll see what happens, but I have seen every game except 1-2 the past two years and outside of the PM game this team is re-remarkably better than it was last season. They again need to take care of the ball. They should and can beat Saltsburg on Friday night, they could also lose that game depending on which team shows up.

Against Canevin you take four big plays from that game and they played well. They were outmatched against Ligonier and PM, but the NC game the score did not show how the game actually was.

Penns Manor's line might be the best in the conference right now, they are very solid up front. HC is very good up front as well, but not sure they are as good as Penns Manor.

Two stations for one game? Sad but worthy. Biggest game of the week. Both broadcast at least one schools games.
