Berlin @ Meyersdale

This is a huge game, I thought it deserved it's own thread. Berlin is at 7-0 while Meyersdale only has one loss. A WestPac title could be on the line here. Any thoughts?

This Meyersdale team is very underestimated and anything can happen in the backyard brawl.

The difference in this one is Berlin's speed. I don't know if Meyersdale can stop Fochtman.

It's always hard to predict who will come out swinging in a back yard brawl. Generally speaking in these type of games you can throw records out the window as we
all seen in the CT vs. Windber game. Statistics and logic would lead most to believe that CT wouldn't have been in that particular game and not only were they in
the game they almost pulled the upset. As far a the Meyersdale-Berlin game we had much the same outcome last year with Meyersdale coming close to pulling the upset coming into the game with one win. Now this year we see a undefeated Berlin squad going head to head with a one loss Meyersdale team. The winner most likely will have a share of the West Pac title pending on the outcome of the following two weeks. What I look to see is the same we have seen all year with Berlin getting the ball in the hands of their sophomore RB who is going to be hard for the Red Raiders to shut down. This young man may be held in check if Meyersdale keys on him but, that being said I don't think they can keep him silent for a full 4 quarters. When not handing the ball to him Berlin will go to their leading receiver and he also is very explosive. Meyersdale will counter with their big back who is having a bang up year and they to have an explosive wide out who has been tearing it up on kick returns. I believe the game might come down to a few factors:

QB-EVEN
WR-Advantage Berlin
Special Teams-Advantage Meyersdale
Defense-EVEN
Depth-Advantage Berlin
Home Field-Advantage Meyersdale


Key Factor in game would be the depth of Berlin's Offensive playmakers. They have numerous athletes that can make a play if Meyersdale focuses on Sophomore RB,

I work with a Meyersdale parent. He thinks the size of the raider line will be big trouble for the average Berlin line. Also, the Berkeley boy is a big, strong, and fast back, something the Berlin team has yet to see. Miller from NS is big but not near as fast or strong. Meyersdale arguably has the second most dangerous #23 in the state and probably the best skill player in west PAC in Cole Clark. If they can get him the ball Berlin will not stop him. I agree with him and take Meyersdale by 2 scores. He thinks Berlin is overrated and I agree.

First off, If this isn't a "Homer" post I dunno what is. It literally made me chuckle while reading.

Being not connected to either of these teams buy yet seeing BOTH of them playing Portage I'll give my small insight. If Meyersdale can't tackle they don't have a chance. I watched my mustangs get embarrassed by Fochtman all over the field by just letting people over-pursue him and trying to arm tackle him up high which doesn't get the job done. Meyersdale couldn't contain or tackle Kephart so logic says Fochtman might do the same. Heres to hoping its a good, clean, fun battle. May the best team on this night win.

I agree that Meyersdale's line/Berkley is a concern for Berlin. They may have the biggest and best line in D5. But Berlin has the speed to contain Clark and the rest of the team. The question is if Berlin's defensive line can hold up.

No we had size over Berlins line one time with size and speed but there speed matched us and gave us trouble I'll take speed over size any day

I was at the Portage/Berlin game. Portage had some big boys on the line, but they were definitely huffing and puffing in the second half. Berlin's speed and endurance wore them down, which I think was the main cause to the sloppy tackling and pursuit from Portage.
