I remember listening to this about 9 months ago.

Pitt fans are lucky. Their coach will have a hard time finding trouble sitting on his couch, pounding cheese curls, watching the big bang theory

Kirk, by all means, I'll gladly accept a boring football coach and million more average or worse football seasons at Pitt over ever having my university eternally and perpetually associated with the mind blowing and tragic atrocities against children which occurred at PSU in the worst sex crime scandal not only in the history of the NCAA but in the history of the world.

So many, including PSU's iconic football coach, stood idly by while the football program allowed money continued to be printed while a raging pedophile was give carte blanc to university facilities and resources and used PSU football to bait dozens of children right under the nose of your self proclaimed hero.

PSU has a stain which will never be washed away. Never. Think about that for a minute.

Kirk, serious question:

What is going on at PSU? What are they thinking in hiring key people (president and Franklin) who seem to be at the very least questionable/shady in terms of potentially covering up sex crimes. Is this what PSU calls changing the culture of football first and only?

I love the Franklin hire. I can see why you don't, though. I'm sure it sucks seeing what Franklin is doing with the football team and realizing all Pitt will ever be is what they are now. Here is a newsflash every single college football coach lies and stretches the truth. Some are better at it than others. If you don't like that, then you shouldn't watch college football. By all accounts, Paul Chryst is a nice guy. The proof is in the pudding though nice guys don't win college football games.

As for the Vandy scandal, Pitt fans had high hopes that Franklin covered up the issue and was helping the players. What came out this week was the complete opposite of that. He basically tried to get kids to spill the beans that they did it. It is comical that Pitt fans hoped he covered up a rape, the complete opposite is said to happen, yet Pitt fans are still calling out Franklin. That's what you do when you are 3-3, though and heading for a losing season.

All you need to know is the DA said Franklin did everything right. The college football world isn't even talking about Franklin right now. It's a non story except for the teams who have nothing else to talk about.

When Wimbush decommitted last week, I like how Franklin bemoaned the fact about how young men should HONOR their commitments, how a handshake is a man's bond. But then of course continues to recruit athletes who have already committed to another school. You know, to LURE away others, but hates it when someone leaves Happy Valley. Do as I say..........

wow, hate much? First off, you never told a white lie to get to the truth? That's all Franklin did. Second, What is it PSU did to children? SANDUSKY is guilty, PSU has been found guilty of NOTHING...yes, NOTHING. The Freeh rag is burning, most of what he said has pretty much been proven false. Joe was cleared of any wrong doing by the Fina, THE LEAD GUY FOR THE STATE CASE! Third, worst is history of the world? wow, hardly (see catholic system) Education is key, stop living the ESPIN lies of yesteryear and see the truth of today.

I hesitate to weigh in on this topic again but will for reason that I'm not quite sure. Titan, I get that you hate PSU, Paterno, and seemingly everything to do with the school. I've said before it sickens me that Sandusky committed some of his crimes at PSU (a place that myself, wife, and oldest daughter graduated from)and I want everyone who may have helped or ignored them to rot in jail and hell. I don't know what exactly happened and I don't think anyone ever will. The upcoming trials may shed some light on that occured or it may just muddy the waters further. If the other four main people (Curley, Paterno, Spanier, and Schultz) mentioned in the scandel played any part in covering it up (and the overwlming ma) then they deserve everything coming to them in terms of punishment and national scorn. I travel a lot for work and I do feel that no matter what Paterno's reputation is forever tarnished on a national level and nothing will restore it at this point. Although when I tell people I'm from Penn State most of the comments are pretty positive and don't seem to obsess on the Sandusky scandel.

Having said all that, how does any of this have any affect on the people (students, faculty, players, coaches, etc...) at PSU now? What happened is beyond awful (although calling it the worst abuse scandel of all time is way over the top and you seem intelligent enough to know that) but everyone involved is gone or dead. It appears James Franklin did the right thing for the victim and for ultimate justice when it came to the rape case at Vandy and I didn't walk in his shoes so I don't know the context in which he lied to his team. However, if it was so that he could make the maximum impact of them regarding the severity of the situation I don't have a big problem with that and would say the same thing if it was Paul Chryst, Nick Saban or anyone else. I just don't see how trying to tie what happened at Vandy, back before Franklin was even thought of as a PSU coach, and the Sandusky crimes makes any sense. I know in the eyes of people who dislike PSU any news about them, positive or negative, will be met with a comment relating it to Sandusky. It's like it's the fall back position for everything at a place that believe it or not has been, and still is, filled with many good people who contribute many positive things to society.

I get being a fan of a team and disliking your rival (although I still maintain that Pitt is no longer the main rival of PSU for various reasons) and by mentioning the scandel seemingly every day you think you are getting to them. Who knows, based on the length of this reply you might be, but IMHO it's less that than it's just tiresome. There is nothing more that Penn Staters can do to go back and have things play out differently. When those involved in prosecuting a case come out and say that the Coach did the right thing, you would think that would be looked upon positively rather than trying to relate it to a scandal that took place when he wasn't around. I'm talking in circles here and am going to stop. I guess I'm just frustrated by the pettiness of using a horrible situation as a way to feel one up on a school you don't like.
