NON All Star Pirates

Post by peytonsaturday »

A thread in the HS baseball section had me thinking: Who were the worst Pirates during the crap years.  So it got me thinking, Why not make out a lineup? Criteria is the player must be a regular.  Guys who were only September call ups and never heard form again don't count.  This should be a fun - and agonizing - thread.

1B - Doug Menkewvich
2B - Abraham Nunez
SS - Pat Mears (might not qualify, seeing as he was always hurt.  But they paid him a boat load of money)
3B - Andy LaRoche
OF - Midre Cummings, Tike Redman, John Van Der Wall
C - Rod Barajas
SP - Ron Villone, Bryan Bullington, Kip Wells, Gorzo
RP - Mike Fetters, Jose Silva
Manager - Russell

I think Adam Hyzdu needs to be on this list considering his crazy minor league numbers.

Jeff Clement gets the start at 1B for me. Jeromy Burnitz has to make the team too.

I was thinking more along the lines of guys who sucked their whole career, never would have sniffed a roster elsewhere, but were starters in Pittsburgh.  Wakefield, Lieber and Arroyo at least had moderate success in other cities.

Pittsburgh was past prime city for a while there. Burnitz, Casey, Wiggington, Lofton, Sanders, Lee, Stairs, Overbay

How can any list of Pirates 'non greats' not include Captain Shutdown Derek Bell?  He should be the poster child for this list.

I will add Jimmy Anderson to the SP rotation.   Guy should have been a slow pitch softball pitcher.
