Coaching question.

Is there any rule concerning a teacher retiring and still coach? As a state employee if I collect a state pension I can not work another state job. Will this effect Bill Packer now that he has retired? I have no clue how teachers pensions work.

Going off of memory and I could be completely incorrect in this. I think when Bill Creps retired at Bedford he had the intention to continue as the wrestling coach. However after he retired it was determined that he couldn't coach. A couple of years after that I believe the rules were changed to allow retired employees to continue coaching. So I think the answer is yes, he can coach. But there are others on this site who would know better than me.

Started thinking who might have retired and continued coaching and Dave Bailey came to mind. Found this on the Altoona Mirror website:

"Dave Bailey, who has sat at the head of the bench as coach of the Tussey Mountain High School boys basketball team for the last 42 years, has submitted his resignation to the school district after being told that the job was going to be opened following a 14-9 season.

"I'm not keeping the job," Bailey said.

The 70-year-old Bailey, a retired teacher at Tussey, said he'd gotten word that his resignation will be discussed at tonight's work session and will be voted upon at the April 20 board of directors meeting."

I don t see any reason why it would break a rule. Its not like they are being paid a whole lot. Might cover the gas for the season

I'm thinking coaches make more then you think they do. They make around 4500 a sport for head coach and most of them live in the school area.

The way Bailey and Page finished their careers, maybe it would be a good idea to bring in some new blood

The Don's career may be on the decline, but it certainly isn't finished. I think someone has confused the Baileys here.
