Pirate Radio in Bedford County

Post by foghorn »

I'm getting forgetful in my old age, but could someone explain to me why our local stations won't carry the Pirates. I'm sure it all comes down to money, but what are the specifics? At home we've purchased the Major League radio plan for the Internet which brings the Pirate broadcasts, so at least we can hear them. But who has a computer in every room?

The Pirate broadcasts from Altoona and Somerset are hit and miss at best. It just bothers me not to have them on the local radio. There's nothing like sitting out on the porch on a warm summer night listening to the Bucs. To be honest, I think I actually prefer radio over TV for baseball. Maybe that's because I grew up listening to Bob Prince, who still occupies my top sport for greatest broadcasters.

Anyway, can someone explain this situation to me?

This ticks me off to no end. I can't get 1430 where I live, so I can't listen to the game on the radio. I love doing other things while just LISTENING to baseball. I love watching it too, but I am fine with listening while I do some work outside or around the house. There isn't always time to watch...

In the car if you are having problems getting 1430, you can have 1020 KDKA set as a preset too...one of them is usually pretty clear. I was shocked that 1020 comes in as well as it does in the evening when a game is on.

It would just be nice if 100.9 would pick the games up again. I think their crowd is getting smaller and smaller and smaller anyway. 99.1, 100.1, 101.1, 97.1, 107.9, Froggy, and SKE (old name for it I think) are dominating the scene. I don't know anyone that listens to 100.9 on a regular basis. Hopefully someone will pick them back up because it really does stink when you listen to constant chhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaa or buzzing in the background.

I hope the 1020 suggestion helps though...

I won tickets from 100.9 like 7 or 8 times a season for a few years because the first 5 callers could call in...the closest to the score got tickets. I called all the time...and I think I was part of the reason they made it so you could only win once per month. The tickets were on the first base side at Three Rivers and you always got 4. I would sit on the porch in the summer and listen almost every night because our cable refused to get KBL! Grrrrrrrrrr......

Why doesn't any local stations carry the bucks....THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR

I agree with foghorn...nothing better than sitting on the deck drinking some lemonade...listening to the bucks.

Is there anything we can do to have an local station to carry the games....

Stations I have found the Bucks on.
