I don't believe you saved wrestling though. When the # of weights went from 12 to 13,the # of forfeits went up,when it went from 13 to 14,the forfeits increased again.Kids just aren't going out,I don't care if you have 20 weights, the number of participants won't change much. It'll just spread the talent that much thinner.

it's not that kids aren't going out eaglealum, it's that they aren't staying out. often because they may not have a spot. tyrone had 18 different kids on their roster this year at one time or another, yet they forfeited weights nearly all season long. seems like there are bigger problems tyrone has to tackle than the number of weights. you are looking at things too much through the way things happen at tyrone. tyrone is not "everywhere".

No,I'm talking about #'s of forfeits statewide. It has gone up in association with the changes over the years. As far as Tyrone's problems,I'll take them along with what they've accomplished as opposed to other area schools' lack of success or underachieving. With 13 9th graders at the Jr high level this year,#'s won't be an issue for them. That wasn't a tunnel I was looking through.I was looking at the sport in general.I stand behind what I said previously,if parents and coaches don't change something soon as far as the values they are instilling, nothing will change.Being on a team is a priviledge, and starting is something that should be earned not expected. It's not just wrestling, most sports acrossed the board have decreased #'s,I believe it's directly related to the "I'm not starting, why should I bother" train of thought. That's what needs to change, not the weights,or coaches for that matter.Parents need to grow a set,at home and be parents, not buddies.

that's the best thing you've ever posted on this forum! i disagree a bit with some of your post, but what is quoted above couldn't be more right on the money.

The weight thing is a dead issue,at least for now.One thing that did pass at that meeting was a change in how scheduling points are used up.Not sure but I think it won't go into effect until 2006 but from now on,you won't see any more people with more than 24-30 matches before districts.
If you go to a dual tourney now you lose 3 pts(outta 24 possible),in the future,if you wrestle 6 matches at a duel Tourney, you lose 6 pts.If you go to any individual Tourney now,you lose 3 pts.In the future,if there are 1-8 teams in that tourney, you lose 3 pts.If there are 9-16 teams in that tourney, you lose 4 pts.If there are over 16 teams in the tourney, you lose 5 pts........At first I thought cool. But the more I thought about it,the less I liked it.Kids that are wrestling alot of matches are getting 6 minutes on the mat at a time with a ref watching everything they do.Now, these kids that are wrestling less matches are increasing their time in the wrestling room. That's not a bad idea, but here's one thing to remember, they spend a couple hours at a time in the wrestling rooms with less supervision;where do you think injuries are more likely to happen? You can't increase numbers in a sport if the number of kids out with injuries spikes. There are pros and cons to this and I don't see alot wrong with either side of it,but it's something to consider.
