Coach K in LA!!!???$$$

Post by foghorn »

What does everybody think of this? I can't envision Coack K. in LA. He seems to go against everything that franchise has represented over the years. Still, you never know....

Duke: Lakers, Krzyzewski discussing coaching vacancy
By AARON BEARD, AP Sports Writer
July 2, 2004

AP - Jul 1, 7:09 pm EDT
More PhotosDURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Mike Krzyzewski has spent 24 years turning Duke into a basketball powerhouse and building a legacy as one of college basketball's greatest coaches. Now he's considering whether it's time for a change.

Krzyzewski met with Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak on Thursday to discuss the NBA team's coaching vacancy.

``Coach K has informed us that the Los Angeles Lakers have contacted him and entered into serious discussions,'' Duke athletic director Joe Alleva said.

``Obviously when you have the best coach in the country, it's not unusual for one of the best franchises in the country to come after him.''

Lakers spokesman John Black said Kupchak talked with Krzyzewski, but said the team is still considering several other candidates to replace Phil Jackson.

The Los Angeles Times and ESPN reported that Krzyzewski was offered the job. Asked earlier by The Associated Press if that was so, Black said he had no comment.

An attempt to reach Krzyzewski by phone was unsuccessful.

LA sportswriters say "Thank Goodness for copy and paste"....can you imagine having to write an article and having to spell Coach K's name all the time......I guess Duke writers have been doing it for a while but there will be more on the LA beat to worry about it now.
Krzyzewski...what a name...( :arrowl: by the way I used copy, paste)

I have my doubts if he will take it. Why run the risk? He is on the verge of breaking many carer NCAA coaching records.

Why run the risk??... MONEY... I heard LA told him that they would make him the highest paid coach in professional sports if he came. I'm a huge Duke fan and a huge Laker fan... I'm really having mixed emotions about this right now. Coach K is a proven winner at the college level... he has built one of the premier programs in the country. Not many people have successfully made the jump from NCAA to NBA. I think the main reason that Duke has been so successful under Coach K is because he is a tremendous recruiter... each and every year they have several Micky D's AA's on the roster. Being a good recruiter doesn't mean much of anything at the pro level... I suppose if he does make the jump we will all see what kind of "coach" he really is.

I don't think the NBA 'allstars' will be willing to conform to the work ethic in which he instills in his program. but then again, looking at having players for more than 2-3 years at a time and having them for 5+ definately has to be a bonus, not to mention... all the dang money...

Stay put. Sure he can go and draw a big check for a couple years, turn in a couple mediocre seasons. Or, stay at Duke and continue to drive the truck down the road to success and earn a level of "Immortality", not unlike Bear Bryant.

ya. i think stay in college. Its still sorta pure basketball, just because theyre playing for the team they want to. theyd do anything for a win. pros will do anything, as long as they dont ruin their chance to make money.

I'd stay in Duke just for the job security. He has a job there for life. If he goes 5-20 in a season he knows he will still be able to bring the program back the next year. If he goes 30-52 in LA than he will prob be gone. Why risk the job security
