Lance Blasted
Lance Blasted
The past day or so Lance Armstrong has been criticized by Greg LeMond who essentially called him a liar about taking illegal substances. I've noticed that the sports media seem to be more critical of Armstong of late even though he hasn't failed any drug tests. If it turms out he has doped, a lot of pretty naive people will be heartbroken. I know most of us don't get too worked up about bicycle racing, but I think in our area we've got some enthusiastic fans and enthusiastic riders. I wonder what they think about all this?

i know for a fact that armstrong has used drugs....the man had cancer for cryin outloud, he went thru chemotherapy! other than that the guys clean as a whistle (which i never understood that saying because most whistles r rather dirty when u consider the amount of spit that builds up inside of them, but hey its a good metaphor)

Re: Lance Blasted
Surely, it is a good possibility that Armstrong has "doped". I would say that it is more likely that he has used something for training, rather than for races. And if indeed he has used performance enhancing drugs, he is pretty smart about when he uses them, because he hasn't failed a drug test yet.

If, and I onlyl mean IF, he did use 'performance enhancing' drugs, atleast he was smart enough to not get caught, unlike all these track and field stars. That has becoming embarrassing to the entire US sporting world.

armstrong has basically won the tour again this year. after todays individual time trial he put a 3:48 second gap between him and 2nd place. with the tour ending on sunday, even the announcers during the race were saying that lance already won. the only thing that would stop him would b an astronomical crash. but if he stays on his bike for the rest of the week then itll b 6 in a row for the "nutty" American

The more I think about this, the more I think that it is unlikely that he has used anything illegal. He wouldn't want to use anything to add muscle bulk. Look at these cyclist, they are skinny twigs. Before Lance had cancer, he was a big bulky guy and he was only a one day racer. Since having cancer, he has thinned out and become a tour guy. A cyclist needs endurance and energy. It is hard to get endurance any other way than training hard repeatedy. However, energy could come from substances. But these substances would have to be taken the day of racing, if not during the race, and I really doubt that he would risk that. I'm saying that it is a definite "no" on the "doping".

Whatever the case, LA seems to be making a joke out the race now. Here's a novel thought: Maybe the guy's just one of the greatest athletes in the history of sports -- so far above everyone else that jealous and meanspirited people have to explain it by accusing him of cheating.
