Women in the Men's Game?
After watching the US women's soccer team take the gold once again and envying their success, this thought came to my mind, "What level are these women at in the men's game?" Obviously they are as high as one can go in the women's game, but I believe most would agree that they wouldn't be medal winners on the men's side (nor would we expect them to)? I mean this in no disrespect to women. The thought originally came from me thinking, "Wow, isn't this awesome! I wonder if I would even have a chance at making our WOMEN'S National Team?"
I was going to put this in the COLLEGE/PRO SPORTS topic, but I figured I would run into more soccer knowledgable fans here.

id say collegiate men, simply becuase they are only good because their competition isnt...but thats not their fault, they can play any team in the country and win, but they still arent as good as they could b. some would argue that theyre better than the mens because they made the olympics and the men didnt, what u must remember is the men have a 23 year age limit with 3 exceptions, whereas the women have no age limit. y do u think that 5 time world cup winners Brazil have never won an olympic gold? olympic mens soccer has become more and more of a joke. it means almost nothing in the soccer world other than a chance to play for ur country....anyway back to the topic, the women are a college team and the rest of the womens world are high school teams

Re: Women in the Men's Game?
I think the Women's National team would have difficulty competing in Men's D1 college soccer. It is no disrespect, but the speed and physicality of men's and women's soccer is very different.
Also, I agree with Gunner's comment about men's olympic soccer. However, I am not sure what the Olympic committee could do to make top players show up. It is during the same summer as the European Championship, which most players covet more than an Olympic medal. Also, the Premier league, the Bundesliga, Le Championatte (apology for spelling, my French is not great), and most other major leagues are starting their season. Christiano Ronaldo was harshly criticized by Alex Ferguson for choosing to play in the Olympics and miss Man U's first two games. I think Olympic soccer is poor, but I am not sure how to fix the problem.

which could have been one of the reasons zidane retired, being able to focus more on club soccer

I think a man and a woman can do equally well if they train as hard as each other!

Re: Women in the Men's Game?
I think that some women may have the potential to be as good a s the men, but women are not as fast as men. they might have a rough time keeping up with the hard hits from the men as well.
Soccer is a very physical game, and some girls can play physical.
