PSU, WVU ROLL...UMD just gets past NIU..

Post by Coach »

Nice day for the teams. PSU with 41 in the first half. Let's hope they can smack Boston College next week to get us rolling...The offense was OUTSTANDING! Morelli and Connor both played. Peretta (Altoona) had an 8 yard catch and 41 yds returning the ball....

WVU's Harris ran for around 350 against ECU. The Eers stomped the Pirates in Motwon.

Umd was my destination for today. I had a heck of a good time down there. We saw a great game as UMD won 23-20. Maryland needs some work before they go to WVU on the 18th or the Eers will wallop them. Statham the QB needs to get another game under his belt and be successful. LEading 23-12 with around 4 mins left and in FG range, Friedgen called for a pass. Statham got LEVELED and the ball was returned around 80 yds for the TD. Umd goes 3 and out and NIU marches down the field. The NIU QB had a brain fart though and never spiked the ball from the 30 with 8 secs left. Instead, he didn't take the snap til 2 secs remained and just threw it away. The crowd was sort of shocked with the way that whole thing went down at the end of the game. The Terps play Temple at home next week at 6. I can't wait to make the return trip.

what does the akron game tell me about psu?

1. they are better than last year
2. they are better than 3 years ago
3. they are better than 4 years ago

in each of these 3 seasons, psu would have struggled against a team like akron. the psu offensive line along with paul jefferson and the wide recievers dominated the game with great run blocking. this is the same quality blocking which helped lj get 2000 yards 2 years ago.

i can't wait for saturday nite to find out how good this much improved psu squad is....

Let's not forget the Buckeyes! Their defense was dominating again, even though they had 7 new starters. Their offense struggled again. I don't think much can be learned from this weekend because all the games were against subpar competition.

Austin,

Maybe Saturday's game means Akron was WORSE than they were the last 3 times they played PSU.

We'll find out if PSU is any better soon enough.

let me clear this up. psu didnt play akron in those three years i mentioned. i am just speculating that the penn state teams in those years would not have been able manhandle akron the way this years's team did. those teams had trouble with teams like temple and toledo.

i dont think the game could have gone any better for penn state whether its bc akron is terrible or psu is good or probably a little of both. i do agree that penn state should not get much regonition until they beat a quality team. as a psu fan, i am just very encouraged by what i saw on the field last saturday.

AFter watching the game twice, the biggest improvement was the blocking up front. The OL dominated, and the zone blocking scheme worked great. The first score and other big runs were zone schemes that Iowa uses too. Zone block left, get flow going that way, then cut back behind a kickout block to the right.

The DL got better as the game went, BUT they better improve 2x by B10 play or they will get run all over like they did last year. They weren't getting off blocks at all. They did fine in pass rushing, but they didn't look good vs. the run (early when Akron could still run). Later in the game they just pass rushed and that made it easier on them.

Lots of freshmen played....Joe knows these guys need to play to get better. I'm telling you...TOP 10 again next year or the year after when this youth gets seasoned. This should also help get some recruits that are debating whether PSU is the place for them or not.

I think PSU played very well on Sat. even though they just played Akron. I was suprised to see them come out of the gates like that. I know it was only Akron but I liked the way they executed every thing and the way they played the whole game and didnt let it go to their heads. I'm anixous to see how they do against BC.... little better team. But over all good game for them and i think they might be up and coming again! Maybe, well see how this Sat. goes??

Yeah they got that from Iowa, the zone blocking scheme!! Give me a dang break. Big 10 has no speed whatsoever!! Come to the Big East, ACC, SEC and you will see speed.

How can you say the Big 10 has NO SPEED?

All D-I teams have speed.

I guess that leaves out the Pac 10 and also the big 12 as having no speed either...
