Interesting tidbits from the President's Column in The American Hunter. Kayne Robinson points out some interesting facts.

1. Kerry voted for Ted Kennedy's bill to ban all centerfire rifle hunting ammunition (Amendment 2619 to S.1805). All you Pennsylvania deer hunters out there, check the ammo you're using for rifle season. Unless you're hunting with a primitive weapon or illegally, it's centerfire. How many deer rifles do you have that will become useless in your gun safe if Kerry is elected President?

2. In the 107th Congress, Kerry voted for the Schumer Amendment to use millions of taxpayer dollars to buy back legally owned firearms and destroy them.

3. Kerry is currently a co-sponser of S.1431, legislation to ban millions of semi-automatic shotguns & rifles. In fact, his own bill would ban the very Remington 11-87 shotgun he recently posed with for the cameras in West Virginia.

4. This year, Kerry voted to ban gun shows.

5. In 1985, Kerry was one of only a handful of Senators to oppose the landmark Firearm Owners Protection Act.

6. Remember Rosie O'Donnell and the Million Mom March crowd that sought to ban firearms and register and license gun owners? Kerry voted in the U.S. Senate to commend them.

7. In 1999, Kerry supported a Lautenberg Amendment (S.254) to ban gun shows.

8. In 1998, Kerry voted against the Smith Amendment to prevent the federal government from registering guns.

9. In 1998, Kerry voted for the Durbin-Chafee Amendment to impose severe criminal penalties on a lawful citizen whose gun was stolen and used in a crime. Let me get this straight, someone breaks into my home, steals my guns, commits a crime with one of those guns, and I become a criminal????? Wow.

10. In 1996, he voted to kill the Civilian Marksmanship Program.

11. In 1994, Kerry voted to ban hunting in over a million acres of California desert (S.21).

12. Kerry voted with Teddy on all but 3 anti-gun bills.

13. He's sided with Charles Schumer on all but one anit-gun vote.

14. John Kerry's record - Kerry's actual voting record - is more anti-gun than that of Al Gore.

There you go fleaflicker and all you other hunters thinking about voting for Kerry. Want to keep your guns? Want to keep your hunting traditions in Pennsylvania by using a high powered rifle with center fire ammo? Do you want to keep from going to prison because someone stole your gun and used it in a crime?

If you answered Yes to those questions, and you're voting for Kerry, then you're taking a big, big gamble.

It doesn't matter what he voted for or didn't vote for in the Senate. He won't pass any of those things. It's as simple as that. So don't get your panties all in a bunch over it. Find a REAL reason to vote for the President.

That's a very thought out, intelligent post there deliverance. Good job.

If you're willing to take that gamble on a constitutional right, then go for it. You say he won't pass it, but how can you be so sure. His Senate votes are anti-gun, so why do you think he would change now? Maybe you feel he will since he has flip flopped on just about every other issue.

This is just one of the MANY reasons I am voting for President Bush. So you don't think protecting a constitutional right is a real reason? Where in the constitution does it say abortion is a right?

If he puts into law something that violates the constitution, won't the Supreme Court over turn it? Let's not forget that 7 of the 9 were appointed by republicans.

Yes, that's what I was saying once a runner. But LionPride doesn't seem to understand that. Maybe he doesn't know as much as he thinks he does??? Wait, he was the one saying my posts weren't intelligent and thought out.

So with that reasoning, the President is virtually rendered useless. Just because 7 or 9 were appointed by Republicans doesn't mean they lean conservative.

Why would anyone that values their 2nd amendment rights want to take the chance of putting someone in there that doesn't believe it's a constitutional right? How can you sit there and say without a shadow of doubt that Kerry's anti-gun bills would be overturned by the Supreme Court?

Deliverance, I believe, no - I know, that I have researched this election and these candidates a lot more than you have. Until you learn to look past the rhetoric, and until you learn that what makes a politician is his/her voting record, you'll never get it. I'd be willing to bet (this is not a fact, just an opinion) that most people in our area share the views/values of President Bush much more than they do Kerry. However, the people voting for Kerry have been bowled over by this hatred of President Bush, and believe for some unknown reason that Kerry is going to be a different President than he was a liberal Senator from Massachusetts.

Hmm, well, the Second amendment is a Constitutional right, one that I vehementily support. But aren't many young men and women losing their rights in Iraq due to inadequate armor, inadequate equipment, and inadequate training? Hmm, so, right now, what is more important, a bunch of bills that will likely never land on the President's desk, or the President's responsibility as the commander in chief to manage the situation in Iraq and preserve the lives of our troops?

I believe my point was that the Supreme Court will uphold our constitional rights. I'm not going to fret over Kerry taking away our rights. It's all part of the checks and balances system that has been working pretty well all these years. I'm not saying it's perfect, but I believe it's the best system out there.

LP, how can you say you have done more research than deliverance or anyone else for that matter? You aren't with them 24/7. It's quite possible they've researched different topics than you. You make it sound like we're all uneducated dolts because if we had done the research you had, there would be no way we could possibly support John Kerry.

I make my observations based on the quality of the posts. I have yet to see deliverance make a meaningful post on this subject where facts, not just rhetoric, are stated.

Do I think John Kerry will try to ban all guns if he's President? Of course not, I'm not stupid. However, he has supported and will continue to support bills (heck he co-sponsored some of them) that will diminish the guns we can own. As I've mentioned before, he co-sponsored a bill to ban semi-automatic guns. I own one. There's one down. He voted to ban guns with detachable magazines. There's another one down. He voted for a bill to ban all center fire rifle ammo. Now I can continue to own those guns that use that ammo, but they are now rendered useless. There's a couple more down. In all of this, he didn't try to ban all guns, but he sure as heck tried to reduced the guns I own. I don't own assault weapons, I own hunting guns. I find that dangerous. If John Kerry had his way, the only guns I own that I could use would be a couple of shotguns and my primitive weapons.

What do these positions mirror? They mirror the UN positions that have been adopted in many European countries and Canada today. How can you say that these positions would not be pushed through. With George Bush, it's a certainty our guns are safe. With John Kerry you're taking a heck of a gamble.

And don't accuse me of this being the only issue of why I'm voting for President Bush. There are many more and I've outlined them in numerous posts.

And I do believe that if more people in PA did the research, they would find that their values and beliefs are more in line with President Bush than John Kerry. I'm not accusing anyone of being stupid people, but if they haven't done the research on their candidates, they are casting an uneducated vote. That's not bashing Democrats or Republicans, that's just a fact. If my comments get more people to dig deeper, really study where these two stand, not just listen to the rhetoric, and they still support John Kerry, then I'm satisfied.
