North Texas gets an opponent
ESPN.com:
Southern Miss: The Golden Eagles will face Sun Belt Conference champion North Texas in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 14. Southern Miss (6-4, 5-3 Conference USA) accepted an invitation to the game after becoming bowl eligible with a 26-21 win over Alabama-Birmingham on Saturday. The Golden Eagles will play in a bowl game for the seventh time in eight years. It will be the Golden Eagles' first trip to the New Orleans Bowl. North Texas (7-4, 7-0) clinched its fourth consecutive Sun Belt title and its fourth trip to the New Orleans Bowl on Nov. 13 with a 51-29 win over Idaho.
Well, I told some kid Saturday that UNT would beat Southern Mississippi at this point, because USM was playing so bad since Almond got hurt in that Houston game. He came back two weeks later, but the team was coming off a loss and wasn't the same anymore. Then USM turned around Saturday and beat a good UAB team, who is going to a bowl for the first time in school history. So it looks like So. Miss. is maybe back on track, which is bad news for UNT AND Cal, because Cal isn't playing real well right now. If that game wouldn't have been postponed, it was a serious potential upset. It's even one now, again, only under different circumstances. UNT plays better at the end of the season, but the defense this year is pretty down. Look for the prestigious Sun Belt to lose yet again, proving why they aren't even a real D-1A conference.
