Pitt Speculation:
With Walt gone and Wannstedt out of the picture where does Jeff Long look next?
Its doubtful that a 'top-tier' coach is going to end up coming. Let's face it, Pitt isn't the 82nd best job in college football like it used to be. If they have any hope of landing a solid coach I'd think they'd have to move soon.
Possible Candidates:
Tom Clements (Buffalo OC)
Bob Davie (former ND HC)
Jon Hoke (Houston Secondary coach)
Bo Pelini (Oklahoma Co-DC)
Paul Rhoads (Pitt DC)
Off the market:
Ty Willingham
Dave Wannstedt
Frank Solich
Others...
Bob Davie might not be a bad choice... he's the defensive version of Walt Harris in many respects. Feel free to add or ammend.

Did you know... that the College Football Hall of Fame recognizes Pitt as having won THREE national championships?

Re: Pitt Speculation:
Bo Pellini is not going to take that job. As far as strong COLLEGE candidates, Pellini is highly touted. Pittsburgh is not a good enough program for Bo Pellini. I just read an article where Tom Osbourne (now a Nebraska congressman, though I think in the Nebraska state gov not national) had made a lot of calls to AD's on behalf of former Nebraska dudez like Pellini and Solich and Tony Samuels (just got fired at NMSU). No one gave Osbourne the time of day, and a lot of the schools didn't even return his calls, which prompted Osbourne to speak out about the rudeness. One of those schools has got to be Pittsburgh. Why would he call Ohio for Solich and not Pittsburgh, when Solich lived in Armaugh when he was a kid? It just doesn't make sense that he's contact Ohio for Solich and not Pittsburgh for Solich AND Pellini. So I highly doubt we see Bo Pellini in Oakland.
Clements, I'd say, is also out. I don't know much about this Hoke guy, and I think Davie is the best guy Pitt is going to get. He's a good coach, and I guarantee you he wants to beat Notre Dame. Rhodes is probably the front-runner at this point, but let's not forget that Pitt lost 5 games last year and lost to 3 relatively bad ones this year. Pitt's defense is not very good. At this point I would say that Rhodes is a bad decision.

Re: Pitt Speculation:
I've looked at this search three ways and have found three different solutions (hirings).
One is name-recognition/ best available (by Pitt standards). To that end I came up with Bob Davie but, you can be sure that he won't apply for the job unless he's sure he'll get it. This link explains how he recently made a fool of himself.
Two is recent hiring protocol. More specifically, promoting from within. In the past few years they've done this with the AD position as well as the basketball job and both have worked out just fine. In this scenario its not a stretch to think Rhoads migh be hired.
Three is the hire I think that some higher-ups want to make and that would be Pellini. I'd expect an announcement by Monday if this were to happen.
Just some thoughts.
