Bison Hoops?
Bison Hoops?
Aren't there any Bedford fans out there even interested in discussing basketball this year?

What happened to coach Waltman? I noticed he wasn't at the Bedford/Westmont game on Saturday night. Would it have made a difference in the Hilltoppers 76-55 victory?

We're interested, maybe not interested as much as those who post in the thirty thousand pages devoted to the mediocre, if that, CR Lions. All jokes aside, Coach Waltman was facing a suspension handed out by the administration. He'll be back for Monday's game with CR. I'm not sure that it would have made a difference. The Bisons shot terribly from the field; Troy Harris was an abysmal 4-23. Westy did a nice job changing the pace of the game with their 1-2-2 press in the second quarter and the lead that they developed there proved to be too much.
Foghorn, I'm more than interested to chat about Bedford. Any questions to get things started?

Re: Bison Hoops?
westmont changed the pace with the 1-2-2 press? That is surprising because the only game I saw of westys this year was against a tough westpac team in CV, I know westy handily beat CV by 29 but CV easily broke that 1-2-2 press because it was weak, practically off the ball, and very little trapping... although CV couldnt score due to poor shot selection by certain players, but other than that I dont see why the press played a big difference and i certainly dont see why harris went 4-23... no excuse, I dont care if you're "AI" himself, you have to know when to quit gunning, and start making plays other ways because in my eyes if you take 25 bad shots and make 9 of them and score close to 30 points, I think that does nothing but hurt the team not saying that is the case here or is by too many players around this area, but all these big point efforts by big named players arent as big as they are made out to be once you look in the Wins / Losses and FG% columns....but back to subject, troy harris is an amazing athlete, but 4-23 is horrible
There we go -- let's throw a zinger at Ridge.
Despite the loss to Westmont (a team that happens to be playing great right now), Bedford's a good team that happens to have the best pure player in school history. That in itself should provoke a lot of discussion.

Re: Bison Hoops?
Therein lies the problem, posterboy; it's not that their press was that good, it's just that Bedford was unable to break it. They prepared for it, they knew it was coming, but they made too many mistakes when they saw it. When a player simply tosses the ball into the opposition's hands, something is wrong. As to Troy's shooting, he was cold all night but the stats are padded slightly by the fact that he took and missed aprox. 6 threes with the game clearly out of reach. He was getting open looks from the outside because of the zone Westy was in but he, and everyone else on the team, couldn't knock in the shots.
Sorry, foghorn, I had to. Will Barefoot be healthy for tonight's game with Bedford?

Ok, good points, at the end of the game when you need to take shots, maybe that was the case, and if thats what it was, I apologize for any comments that werent true, westmont is a good team and are playing great, and maybe just a bad night.... good luck bedford
P.S. - Troy harris is still a great athlete and should continue to do whatever he needs to keep bedford on a winning page

I concur with the Troy Harris selection as the best pure basketball player in Bedford history.
As I recollect, the next level of candidates would be Mark Anderson, Bill Benbow (defensive wizard), Chris Leydig (not sure of first name...a great distributor at the point guard position), the Wilt bros. (Trevor and Ryan..Ryan especially tough after HS years)
Then, Dick Mumma was at a different level altogether. Some of the older players under Royce Waltman were quite skilled, but I doubt they had the opportunity to "showcase" their individual talents as the game is played today to the benefit of T. Harris and his ablilty.
Foghorn.. give BC some of the names associated with Royce's teams in Bisonland.
