Leinart returning

Post by Former Wildcat »

I congratulate Matt Leinart for returning for his senior season. Now, apparently his family is pretty well off so the money thing was not as big for him. I do not see USC winning a third national championship. Hopefully, the Buckeyes will keep them from that. Did you see both Corso and Herbstreit had OSU as the #2 team next year? They also have not lost anyone early to the draft (I was worried about Hawk and Holmes).

By the way, I am tired of listening to PSU fans raving about their recruiting class. They got two 5 star recruits. Look at the rest of their class. It is not even Top 20 according to two of the rankings I looked at. They did get two good players, but the last time I checked, teams played with 22. Plus, JoePa will figure out a way to ruin them.

Go Buckeyes!!

i'm glad to see him come back. most football players don't see if they don't do well in the pros, there's nothing for them to have as a back up. he will have a degree now that he can fall back on. Great job to finish school. All the respect in the world to him.

I've heard on Around the Horn that Leinart will already be getting his degree after this year. So I don't see the point in him coming back except to try and win another Heisman and National Championship. I'd rather have an extra years pay and an extra year working with my new teammates. Although i'm sure there were other reasons why he stayed back that I don't know about.

"Show me the money". While a degree is a good thing to have to fall back on, nothing can take the place of being an instant multi-millionaire. He was a definite first round pick and his payday would have been huge. I mean we're talking a long term contract plus a signing bonus. Let's say a team pays him a mere (in comparison) $2 million per year over 5 years plus a $5 million signing bonus, that's $15 million. If he gets hurt during that time, can't sign another contract, and blows $15 million, that's his fault. I, for one, would have made the jump. He can always go back and finish his degreee if he would need to. Even as a back-up for the next 10 years, he's probably going to make more money than any degree will give him.

Why would he EVER make that jump early? Here's reasons why Leinart isn't as dumb as you people:

1. San Francisco is the worst franchise in the NFL anymore and will definitely be atrocious next year.
2. San Francisco has no head coach.
3. San Francisco has no general manager.
4. San Francisco is still paying the price for throwing out all that money when they had 600 big-money players like Deion and whoever else, when they knew full-well that it was a very stupid idea.
5. San Francisco has no team to buffer around an up-start QB like Pittsburgh just had.
6. Matt Leinart is not yet good enough to play in the National Football League, and he's getting drafted by a team who desperately needs something special.
7. Matt Leinart has a chance to win the Heisman again, win threee straight national titles considering how much USC has returning, and has a chance to be "the best college quarterback that has ever lived".
8. He gets to play as starting quarterback for what could EASILY turn into the greatest college dynasty we've ever seen.

There's at least 8 great reasons for him to stay in college.

Who says he is going to San Francisco? I don't think S.F. is going to keep their top pick because of their financial situation. One scenario is the Washington Redskins possibly trading up,seems like they could use a QB.
There are to many teams that need his kind of talent and are willing to pay for it.
Your top 5 reasons for him staying have to do with S.F.,take those out and you have three reasons to stay. I can give you 15 or even as high as 50 MILLION reasons to go.
It sure would be nice to be remembered as " the best college Quarterback that has ever lived", but if he gets hurt while doing it, what else has he made himself besides an answer to a trivia question!
What if USC just happens to fall apart around Leinart next year? Now instead of a #1 pick, he falls to 5 or 6. The difference in money isn't a few hundred thousand dollars, it could be a million or two. Now he has cost himself for not taking advantage of all of the publicity he's getting RIGHT NOW. I still say he should've went pro. Money is what makes the world go around, NOT Heisman trophies!!

Winning 3 national titles and 50 cents will get you a phone call.... Since he does have a future in pro-football, can he take out an insurance policy on himself in case he gets hurt in a college game, if the injury is career ending? Who would pay for it?

wildcat

psu would be able to get a better class if they would give the kids money and high paying summer jobs that they dont even need to come to. and then at school they would take tests and write papers for the kids. i bet they would get alot better recruits that way. wait till the bucks are on probation and see how good of recruits they get!!!! go bucks!!!

leinhart probably stayed and played 9th grade(jr high) football when the coaches wanted him to move up to varsity. his mommy probably didnt want him to get hurt or didnt want him to have to compete for the job. usc has a log jam at qb, he will probably get beat out by john booty next year anyway.

San Francisco offered Leinart something like 54 million dollars plus an enormous signing bonus. They guaranteed him more money than Eli Manning is making. Now, what does that tell you about who they are planning on drafting?
