HELP WANTED: Questions about College Wrestling

Here's the story:

My friend Ross and I were in the bookstore a few days ago, nad there's a real big case where they have dark green UNT shirts that say "North Texas" across the top. So all the shirts are all set up in the same way. Under the North Texas, there is a drawing of the sport, and then it says the name of the sport. Such as a guy swimming and then "Swimming" written under it. The shirts were like 14 bucks. I started looking for a wrestling one, because I didn't really want a Track one, but I liked the way the shirts looked. There was no wrestling shirt. I asked Ross if UNT had a wrestling program. He said he thought we did, but we definitely don't. How does a 1-A school not have a wrestling program? How much could it possibly cost?

Does anyone know anything about college wrestling? Do most teams have wrestling programs? How about in Texas? I am thinking of starting a petition down here to get a program. If anyone has any info on this stuff, please contact me asap.

the whole sec just about doesn't have wrestling programs...including the gators. i'm not sure why i guess some feel it is worthless...but i think it is the great sport ever.

I talked to a guy today that is on UNT's athletic board and he told me to start a petition and he'd sign it. I'm dead serious about this. I really, really need any help anyone can give me. I really have no info on how to go about this, or any info on college wrestling. I need details. Any info is very appreciated and needed. Explain what you mean by Title IX.

i wrestled for 13 yrs. and wrestled at upj for a year until i quit...bgut thats beside the point. call me maybe i can help

Is there enough interest in wrestling down there for a team? I thought wrestling was kind of a regional thing. Do they have an ice hockey team? How about a cricket team? I am not trying to be stupid, but I can't see a D1 school spending money on a program in which there is no interest.

not to sound rude...but former wildcat you apparently know nothing about wrestling there is actually alot of people who like wrestling and alot of big name school with really good programs such as: oklahoma; oklahoma st; iowa; penn st; nebraska; iowa st; michigan; illinois; northwestern; wisconsin; minnesota; missouri; central michigan; arizona st; stanford; boise st; ohio st; oregon; and i could go for a lot longer so please tell how there is know interest in wrestling..

they might be trying to find a way to have it at unt.......if you guys know nothing about wrestling why even post anything at all. you don't have to like, but just don't about something you know nothing about

Maybe all you need to do is create interest. When I asked that guy on the athletic board why UNT didn't have a wrestling program he said "I dunno, no reason why we don't."
