District #5 & #6 Basketball is getting ready for playoff
According to the unofficial rankings on the District #6 Web site, Johnstown is the top boys team in Class (AAA), followed by Bellefonte and Central Cambria. The top three Class (AA) squads are West Branch, Marion Center and Bishop McCort while Blairsville, Johnstown Christian (which is not participating in the District #6 playoffs) and Conemaugh Valley are the top three squads in Class (A).
Lewistown, Bellefonte and Indian Valley are the top three girls Class (AAA) squads with Westmont, Bishop Guilfoyle and Marion Center in top three in Class (AA) and Claysburg-Kimmel, Saltsburg and Belleville Mennonite the top three in Class (A).
The Quad-A deadline is 3 p.m. Feb. 9 with State College the top boys squad and Altoona the top girls team in the unofficial rankings.
An entry fee of $50 is charged to every team entering the playoffs.
District #6 championships are scheduled for St. Francis University this year, with (AAAA) champions being crowned Feb. 23.
Three games will be held Feb. 25 and five games will be on Feb 26 including the sub regional AAAA games with the District 9-10 runner-ups and the (AAAA) District #6 champions.
In District #5, the seeding meeting is set for noon on Feb. 13 at Chestnut Ridge High School. The top eight boys and girls teams in Class (A) and top five in Class (AA) earn playoff spots.
In the current rankings, which were updated on Jan. 24, Southern Fulton was the top Class (A) boys squad, followed by Shanksville-Stonycreek, Conemaugh Township, Berlin Brothersvalley, Forbes Road, Northern Bedford, McConnellsburg and Rockwood. Playoffs begin on Feb. 16.
In Class (A) girls, Conemaugh Township tops the rankings at present, followed by Southern Fulton, Rockwood, Berlin, Northern Bedford, Turkeyfoot Valley, Forbes Road and Fannett-Metal. Playoffs open on Feb. 15.
In Class (AA) boys, Bedford sits atop the rankings, followed by Windber and North Star. Everett and Chestnut Ridge are fourth and fifth, respectively, and would be involved in a play-in game on Feb. 15.
In Class (AA) girls, Tussey Mountain is on top, followed by North Star and Everett.
Bedford and Windber would be in the play-in game, set for Feb. 16.
Three of the District #5 championships, Class (A) girls, Class (AA) girls and Class (AA) boys, are set for Feb. 24 at the Pitt-Johnstown Sports Center with the Class (A) boys title game on Feb. 23 at UPJ.
Consolation games for Class (A) boys and girls will be held Feb. 22.
Defending District #6 champions are the Bishop Carroll boys and girls in Class (A), the Westmont Hilltop boys and girls in Class (AA), the Johnstown boys and Lewistown girls in Class (AAA) and the State College boys and Altoona girls in Class (AAAA).

In Class (AAAA), the winner will come out of a subregional with District 10.
