With less that a week left in the high school basketball regular season, here is an update on the WPIAL girls basketball playoff picture through Monday, January 31st.

Every WPIAL girls playoff basketball game can be heard beginning with the Playoff Pairings Show on Tuesday, February 8th ONLY here at msasports.net

Class (AAAA) - SECTION 1:

Norwin Knights (12-1) have clinched a share of the section title

Penn-Trafford Warriors (10-3) clinched

Hempfield Spartans (9-4) clinched

Greensburg-Salem Golden Lions (7-6) clinched

Latrobe (6-7) can clinch a playoff spot with a win at home against Kiski Area on 2/3 AND a Greensburg-Salem loss at Albert Gallatin on 2/3

Class (AAAA) - SECTION 2:

Oakland Catholic Eagles (12-1) clinched

Gateway Gators (12-1) clinched

Franklin Regional Panthers (8-5) clinched

Penn Hills is 6-7, Woodland Hills in 6-7 and Plum is 5-8

The winner of the Woodland Hills at Penn Hills game on 2/3 clinches a playoff spot

Class (AAAA) - SECTION 3:

New Castle Red Hurricanes (10-3) have clinched a share of the section title

Pine-Richland Rams (9-4) clinched

North Allegheny Tigers (8-5) clinched

New Castle can clinch the section title outright with a win at Butler on 2/4

Seneca Valley and Shaler are both 7-6

Seneca Valley is Pine-Richland on 2/3.....Shaler is home to Fox Chapel on 2/3.....If the Raiders and Titans tie for fourth place, both teams will clinch. However if they end up tied with North Allegheny, then the Tigers and Raiders clinch

Class (AAAA) - SECTION 4:

Bethel Park Black Hawks (11-1) have clinched a share of the section title

Mount Lebanon Blue Devils (10-1) clinched

Trinity Hillers (5-6) clinched

Canon-McMillan Big Macs (5-6) clinched

Mount Lebanon will share the section title if they beat Upper St. Clair on 2/3

Trinity is at home against Canon-McMillan on 2/3.....Upper St. Clair is home to Mount Lebaon on 2/3

If Trinity beats Canon-McMillan, Upper St. Clair is eliminated.....If Canon-McMillan beats Trinity, Upper St. Clair can clinch with a win over Mount Lebanon


Class (AAA) - SECTION 1:

North Catholic Trojanettes (12-1) have clinched the section title

Mars Planets (10-3) has clinched

Hampton Talbots (10-3) has clinched

Knoch Knights (9-4) has clinched


Class (AAA) - SECTION 2:

Moon Tigers (10-1) have clinched a share of the section title

Hopewell Vikings (9-2) clinched

Montour Spartans (8-3) clinched

Blackhawk Cougars (6-5) clinched

Moon can clinch the section title outright with a win at Hopewell on 2/3.....If the Vikings beat the Tigers, then Hopewell and Moon will share the section crown


Class (AAA) - SECTION 3:

Indiana Little Indians (12-1) have clinched the section title

Southmoreland Scotties (9-4) clinched

Derry Trojans (8-5) clinched

Yough and Laurel Highlands are both 7-6

Yough is home to Mount Pleasant on 2/3.....Laurel Highlands is at Belle Vernon on 2/3

Any tie between Yough and Laurel Highlands would results in both teams clinching a playoff spot


Class (AAA) - SECTION 4:

Thomas Jefferson Jaguars (13-0) have clinched the section title

Chartiers Valley Colts (11-2) clinched

West Mifflin Titans (9-4) clinched

Steel Valley Ironmen (7-6) clinched


Class (AA) - SECTION 1:

Greensburg Central Catholic Centurions (12-1) have clinched a share of the section title

Apollo-Ridge Vikings (11-2) clinched

Ford City Sabers (10-3) clinched

Greensburg Central Catholic can clinch the section title outright with a win at Jeannette on 2/3 OR an Apollo-Ridge loss at West Shamokin on 2/3

Class (AA) - SECTION 2:

Riverside Panthers (12-1) have clinched a share of the section title

Beaver Falls Tigers (11-2) clinched

Neshannock Lancers (9-4) clinched

Riverside can clinch the section outright with a win at Mohawk on 2/3 OR a Beaver Falls loss at New Brighton on 2/3

Neshannock owns the tie-breaker with New Brighton, so even if the Lions tied the Lancers for third place, Neshannock would be in and New Brighton out

Class (AA) - SECTION 3:

Carlynton Cougars (11-2) clinched

Seton-LaSalle Rebels (11-2) clinched

Seton-LaSalle (11-2) is home to Sto-Rox (10-3) on 2/3.....Carlynton (11-2) is home to Bishop Canevin (10-3) on 2/3

If Sto-Rox and Bishop Canevin both win or both lose, both teams will still clinch a playoff spot

Head-to-Head thus far:
Seton-LaSalle: 3-2
Carlynton: 3-2
Sto-Rox: 2-3
Bishop Canevin: 2-3

Class (AA) - SECTION 4:

Riverview Raiders (11-0) have clinched a share of the section title

Shady Side Academy Indians (10-1) clinched

South Allegheny Gladiators (7-4) clinched

If Riverview beats Shady Side Academy on 2/3, the Raiders win the section title outright. If Shady Side Academy beats Riverview, the Raiders and Indians will share the section crown

Class (AA) - SECTION 5:

Fort Cherry Rangers (12-1) clinched

Washington Little Prexies (12-1) clinched

Fort Cherry and Washington both win or lose their final section game, they will share the section crown

Frazier is 7-6, Brownsville is 7-5 and Charleroi 6-7 in fighting for third place

Frazier is home to Brownsville on 2/3.....Brownsville is at Frazier on 2/3.....Charleroi is at Washington on 2/3

Frazier owns the tie-breaker against Charleroi


Class (AA) - SECTION 6:

Avonworth Antelopes (12-0) have clinched the section title

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Chargers (9-2) clinched

Center Trojans (7-4) clinched



Class (A) - SECTION 1:


Farrell Steelers (9-2) clinched

Rochester Rams (8-2) clinched

Sewickley Academy Indians (8-2) clinched

Monaca Indians (6-5) clinched

For the section title, Farrell is at Rochester on 2/3.....Rochester is At Sewickley Academy on 2/1 and home to Farrell on 2/3.....Sewickley Academy is home to Rochester on 2/1 and at Quigley on 2/3

Quigley (5-6) can make the playoffs only if they beat Sewickley Academy on 2/3 AND Monaca loses to Western Beaver on 2/3


Class (A) - SECTION 2:


Avella Eagles (12-0) have clinched the section title

Geibel Gators (8-3) clinched

Mapletown Maples (6-5) clinched

Carmichaels Mighty Mikes (5-6) clinched

West Greene (4-7) can clinch a playoff spot only if they win at Carmichaels on 2/4 AND Jefferson-Morgan loses to Mapletown

If West Greene and Jefferson-Morgan both win, then Carmichaels wins the three way tie-breaker, eliminating both West Greene and Jefferson-Morgan

Serra Catholic Eagles (9-1) have clinched the section title

Monessen Greyhounds (6-3) clinched

Clairton Bears (6-3) clinched

Duquesne Dukes (6-4) clinched

Class (A) - SECTION 4:

Mount Alvernia Lions (9-1) have clinched a share of the section title

St. Joseph Spartans (9-1) have clinched a share of the section title
