Are You My Cousin?
Are You My Cousin?
Just wondering. Since alot of the posters on here are from Bedford County, how many know their family tree? Perhaps alot of us are somehow related. I've researched mine as best I could. My grandmother grew up near Queen. She was a Stiffler. Her mother was a Claar. Other names in my tree are Ickes, Imler, Walter. All from Bedford County. Does anyone have any famous ancestors? You know, like Civil War or Revolutionary War vets. Let's hear your roots.

Re: Are You My Cousin?
I have 3 direct ancestors who served in the Revolutionary War. John Ickes who is buried in the Osterburg Cemetary. Peter Stiffler from Dutch Corner, who is buried in the Messiah Luthern Cemetary near Camp Sunshine. And Simon Claar who served with the York County militia before moving to Bedford County in the late 1700's. Always felt bad that I did not have a Civil War Veteran in my tree. Gaps in generations did not allow it. But my great-grandmother's sisters husband Frederick Burket died in Andersonville Prison in October 1864. Captured in Virginia in May of that year. Quite interesting.

So one sided with the British? See guys. We're learning alot about ourselves here. Captain Coveman had an ancestor who was a Torie, and count2infinity was related to Benedict Arnold. No wonder this site has a great mix of opinions and personalities!! And that's 2 Andersonville mentions. Do I hear 3? The past is prologue.
