Toughest Conference in College football?

To start off, we must have the lineup for each one to keep in mind. So, this year, for the 6 major conferences, here is the lineup:

ACC
Atlantic Division: Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, Maryland, North Carolina State, and Wake Forest
Coastal Division: Duke, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, Virginia, and Virginia Tech

Big 12
South Division: Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech
North Division: Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa State


Big East: Rutgers, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Connecticut, Syracuse, Cincinnati, Louisville, and South Florida

Big 10: Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Purdue, Indiana, and Illinois

SEC
East: Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky
West: Auburn, LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Mississippi State

Pac 10: USC, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, California, and Stanford

For all other conferences, here is the lineup: (like it matters)

WAC: Boise State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Louisiana Tech, Nevada, San Jose State, New Mexico State, Utah State, and Idaho

MAC: Miami (OH), Toledo, Ball State, Bowling Green, Ohio, Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Akron, Buffalo, Kent State, and Northern Illinois

Conference USA: UAB, UCF, Marshall, Rice, SMU, East Carolina, Southern Mississippi, Memphis, Houston, UTEP, Tulane, and Tulsa

Sun Belt: Arkansas State, UL Monroe, UL Lafayette, North Texas, Troy, MTSU, Florida Atlantic, and Florida International

Mountain West: TCU, Utah, New Mexico, Brigham Young, Wyoming, Air Force, Colorado State, San Diego State, and UNLV

Independents (no conference): Notre Dame, Navy, Army, and Temple

The Big 10 has the best middle tier, while the Big 12 South is the toughest division. Everybody has some pretty awful bottom feeders. But which conference is the toughest?

Definately the ACC is the toughest. I mean...you just brought in Virginia Tech and Boston College(2 heck of a good football teams)and on top of them you still got Miami, Florida State, Virginia, North Carolina, etc. Too many to account for. Yeah yeah, the Big 12 has the teams 2, but i am putting them second on my list.

I think this coming season, the Big 10 will be the toughest. Iowa and Ohio State will have break out seasons, and one of them could possibly be in the national title game. Michigan will, as always, be tough, but Purdue could get up there a bit as well.

Yes the Big 10 will be good, but the ACC will be much better. C'mon Flea...you know it. Unless Michigan State gets a heck of a lot better and Indiana as well...then the Big Ten is nothing at all compared to the ACC. And this is coming from a huge Michigan State fan there bud...so don't say anything about how i like the ACC, b/c i don't.

Well if we are gonna talk about the best conference from top to bottom...you would have to say the SEC...The have LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, etc...If you take a team like Ole Miss or Arkansas, which are teams that get smacked around every year in the SEC they will win in a conference such as the ACC or the Big 10 and definately the Big East...if they competed in the ACC they would be able to beat teams like NC State, Maryland, Virginia, and other teams in that tier of the conference...in the Big East they have too much speed for those teams...and in the Big 10 they will beat most of the teams except for Michigan and Ohio State....the SEC is a football conference...the people down south follow college football like a religion...they have the most speed....

I agree with you ieatham0555. That is one heck of a point. I was just waiting for someone like you to post that. The SEC is BY FAR, the best conference in college football. Auburn should've been in the national title game with USC. Auburn got the shaft. The SEC will prevail this year and bring home the crown.

The SEC is a good conference. But I'm not convinced that their middle of the road teams are better than anybody else's, save the Big East and Pac 10, the two worst conferences. The Pac 10 is top heavy with one team, but that team is the whole conference pretty much. Old Miss had a down year, and Arkansas is never any great stuff. But Vandy and Kentucky stink.

The ACC has a few top heavy teams, but the same thing, the rest are middle of the road. You have Miami, Virginia Tech, and Florida State at the top. Beyond that, the teams are pretty much average. UNC got beat by Boston College, Duke stinks, Wake is at best a .500 team, and the rest jump around from year to year, but aren't top tier teams.

The reason I think the Big Ten is going to be good this year is because they have the best middle tier teams. After Iowa, Michigan, and Ohio State (top tier), you have Purdue, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan State, and Northwestern. All of these teams are at least .500 teams next year, in my personal opinion. Penn State could be (doubtful though), and Indiana and Illinois may improve.
