Despite shortcomings, Pitt Is It!
I know Pitt rents their stadium and cannot sell out every home game. Considering these facts, Pitt is doing quite well.
With the recent 17 verbal commitments, Pitt is dominating the Western PA recruiting circuit as well as plucking a few needs from around the country. Just this weekend, Pitt received commitments from the following.....
Aaron Smith, WR, Gateway High School: was recruited by PSU, Florida, Virginia, Michigan State, and Tennessee.
Kevin Collier, RB, NY: was recruited by Wisconsin, Syracuse, BC, Tennessee, and Michigan.
Ricky Gary, CB, Florida: Known as "Sticky Ricky" for his outstanding pass coverage. Was recruited by Iowa, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Kansas.
Why have these great athletes as well as 14 others chosen Pitt? Because it is a program that has gone to 5 consecutive Bowl Games! A Program that is coached by a guy with a winning NFL record as a Head Coach! { Something Pete Carroll, Steve Spurrier, Al Groh and Lou Holtz can't claim } A Program that develops its players to reach their full potential! A Program with 2 Biletnokopf Winners, a Maxwell Award winner and a Heisman Runner Up in the same 5 year period!
That is why!

Once again, listen and learn, kiddies. Pitt is obviously doing better than they were 10 years ago. HOWEVER... they do play in the weakest I-A conference right now. You Pitt bozos should know by now much weight is in a verbal commitment. If Pitt continues to lose 4-5 games a year, which they will, those kids are NOT coming to Oakland. Not when you can go to a better program. Like I sdaid before, Miami is notorious for raiding other team's verbals late in the recruiting season. If Tennessee does as well as predicted, you think kids are going to go to Pitt? How many more verbals are you going to lose until you wise up? More people jump ship from their verbals every season, all across the US.

Did a little homework of my own. Courtesy of Rivals.com, I went through the top 100 prospects.
Pitt has 1 verbal, PSU has 0.
6 players in the top 100 are considering Penn State. Only one of which had them as "low" on his current interest level. Pitt has 2 players on there, and one is the verbal.

Like I said, I saved your wish list.
A Program that is coached by a guy with a winning NFL record as a Head Coach!
After doing some light research it seems that Wanny is a career loser up to this point compiling a 82-86-0 in the regular season and a 2-3 mark in the post-season.
Thats far from impressive, in my opinion.
Sure, he's getting some solid recruits right now but until he proves he can actually win on a consistent basis AND take a program to the 'next level' I'm taking a wait-and-see approach to this guy.

Did you know... that the College Football Hall of Fame recognizes Pitt as having won THREE national championships?
Re: Despite shortcomings, Pitt Is It!
good...take all those early signings.
As TAE said, we'll see on LOI day who has "better" recruits according to the so called gurus.

The key here, though, is the 14 verbals from Pennsylvania kids. First the state, then the region, then the nation. PSU can have those kids from New Joisey. There's something about playing in your home state that makes it all worth while. Like defending the homeland, a certain allegiance.
