59 Min 59 seconds- Defensive let down

Post by footballfan1 »

Watching the clips over and over again from that last play in the state game. Michingan lines up in a slot to one side and run a basic slant pattern!!!! What the heck were the Linebackers doing?? Watch the highlites and watch number 31 just stand there and MAKE no attempt to get undeneath that slant pattern. Serious he just kind of stood around and was in perfect position to break up that slant. State came up one second short. 59 min 59 seconds they played really hard and was disappointed to see how easy that play was to run for Michigan on last play of the game.

COME ON.......I can't say it enough...yes the D could have played better...but you HAVE to credit this loss to the special teams.....i said this in another post...2 Botched FG's, and the last kick off, if Superman himself fields the ball....you gotta tackle him before he gets to midfield......doesn't matter who you kick it too......
Other than that...the offense needs to play all 4 qaurters, and the D could of used a little help....
but one more time
SPECIAL TEAMS!!!!!!!!!!

It's not the offense's fault, though, when you let Henne lead that team down the field like that and throw that touchdown. That was a bad call, and bad fundamentals. It's as simple as that. Now, granted, the special teams was bad, and that catch was out of bounds for a 17 yard gain. There's no 1 single reason. Michigan won that game because they knew Bradley was keying on a fade over King in the corner.

penn state lost the game in the first half when they could have put michigan away. when you have a wounded animal down, you better make sure you put it out for the count.

it was really a tale of 2 halves. i have to give credit to michigan. they made adjustments and put in a good play w/ .01 to go. henne was lookin to manningham the entire time. the safety has to read that. zemaitis was protecting outside and had no help on the inside. touchdown. gameover. penn state can still end up big ten champions by going 10-1.

Austin is right, he never looked off Manningham. Morelli's dad called the final play(yes, I happened to be sitting near him), and it happened. 10-1 would be excellent Austin, but this one will hurt for a long long long time.

We knew this was the biggest game of the season, despite UM's record. 7 in a row now. PSU has to break that streak in Ann Arbor, against a UM team that is at full-strength. All the cards were in place yesterday.

Gang: If you get a chance to see the replays I am telling you Michigan ran a basic slant pattern and the LBers from State were watching and if 31 for State takes 6 steps back and two steps to his left he breaks up that pattern. State played with alot of guts but I am telling you those backers took that last play off.

When it comes down to it, the defense actually played well for 60 min and 1 sec before the let down. The play never should have happened. We couldn't even get lucky enough to have them catch the ball on the play before (he would have been tackled in bounds, game over) But i have to agree that the problem is special teams. Why in God's name did we continue to kick the ball to Breaston? Last week we continued to kick it to Ginn. We were just playing with fire and finally got burnt. Breaston returned the final two for good returns. Then two botched field goals. Yeah, the defense didn't look right but to say "if he was only 6 steps back, and 2 steps to the left?" We could have done a lot different. We played for one play, they ran another. Congrats Michigan. If we would have stopped them, we would be talking about what a great defensive call. Also, the two non-reviewed plays hurt as well. Hart fumbled earlier in the game and its wasnt called or reviewed and that pass play that was out-of-bounds hurt as well. Of course, penn states "catch" was reviewed and reversed. Just our luck.
