District 5A....pathetic

Post by dragonfanz »

District 5 shows again that they are pathetic. When a 3-6 team makes the playoffs there is something wrong. I'm sure somebody will get on here and defend their district, but this takes the cake folks. I haven't looked at the numbers, but are their any other teams in the state that are three games under .500 and in the hunt for a district title?

Maybe Central should look to join the conference these teams play in, then they would have a shot to make the playoffs.

You wouldn't have to feel bad about it either. You wouldn't be the first AA team to do such a thing.
And the last thing I must tell you...NEVER QUIT!

unfortunately, when D6 expands to 16 teams next year, the same situation will occur.....takes the meaning out of being a playoff team...

Doesn't District 6 have an open format for their basketball playoffs. I remember some Claysburg basketball teams in the district playoffs with 2 or 3 wins and 18 loses. Do you also consider District 6 pathetic?

Longball,

get your facts straight, reread what was written for next year. Yes, they are expanding to 16, however, they will probably only have 14 teams in. At least in D6 next year you need to have at least 4 wins.

Tussey fan,

This isn't basketball buddy, post in the basketball section next time.

ok dragonfanz....didn't know the details...that makes me feel better...you have to have at least four wins (with five losses then) to get in...that's so much better....

and I'm in district six....so I'm upset with the direction we're going, not bashing another district....

yes, basketball and baseball have open tournaments...and yes, at times it is ridiculous....

so many times people say the regular season means nothing, it's what you do in the playoffs...so if a team with a losing record really starts to click at the end of the year and wins the district does that make them a bad team? and most of the time the team that gets in there with a losing record gets knocked out anyways in the first round, what's the problem?

If this was next year when D6 will expand to 16 teams, there would be several 2 win teams trying to win this week to make the playoffs with 3 W's. The same will apply in D6 because that is the system. It will be worse in 6 because the top seeds there are wayyyyyyyy better than the bottom seeds. 1 almost always beats 8 by 40+ as it is.

I know it isn't football, but D6 has an open format for other sports...where you don't have to earn a thing to play in the playoffs. At least a 6 seed out of 11 teams is still earned.

You can win 1 game and play in the playoffs in hoops.

You can go 0-18 and be in the district wrestling championships.

The same applies for other sports, but I am just trying to prove the point. I don't need to post it all...

I believe here in the state of Indiana, everyone gets into the state tournament starting with Sectionals (5 classes in IN). Sectionals start week 10 and teams are arranged in sectionals to limit the distance for travel for each school. They are mainly 8 team tournaments (sometimes 7 with one team getting a bye week 1 of playoffs) and sectional champ moves on. Now here is the kicker that makes everything kind of interesting. There are no seeds. Teams are drawn out of a hat, so if two (9-0) teams in a sectional are drawn back to back they will play week one of the playoffs. And it is also possible for teams having less than stellar records to play each other. They also have different ways of handing out who is hosting.

If interested, go to http://www.ihsaa.org/b-football_frame.htm

So regular season is just that, play for league championships and then playoffs are the second season, searching for the state title.

Boiler OUT!
