havent heard much about it, but i do know that hollywood has a tendency to stretch the truth. throw in Mothers of America and im sure some of the "real deal" things will be omitted. having said that, the commercials and website seem to show it pretty realistic, me and some other Devil Dogs will be goin to the cinema to check it out tomorow nite for its releas, expect a full review in a few days

well as promised here goes....
first off let me start off by saying that i myself have yet (YET) to go to the sandbox, so much of what happened there i cannot elaborate on. however the generalizations about the military/Corps/war in my eyes were rather accurate, the whole reffering to everything as "the suck"...pretty true. the movie doesnt paint a glamourous picture of the Marine Corps, but i dont think that it was designed to do that, it was made to show the side of the Corps that the public never gets to see...the side of the actuall Marines. as shown by the movie, our jobs suck, they flat out do...but thats why we do them, we know that no matter how bad something is, we see the good in it and will complete it with a passion and desire unrivalled by any other fighting force. a little history lesson for yall....
WWI when the Marines were fighting the Germans, the Marines fought with such tenacity and ferociousness that the Germans nicknamed us Tuefelhunden's, meaning "Devil Dog". the coined it to be an insult to us, but we took it an adopted it to an almost unofficial nickname, heck the mascot for the Corps is a bulldog. same thing with the term Jarhead, civilians and other branches use the term as a deroggotory quote, we take it as a compliment.
overall though i say its a good movie, worth seeing by any republican...im sure the dems and libs will have some bull$#*^ to say about it, but o well. good for them.

This is a pretty good movie. Little fighting (which is what I was looking for). But still, overall it was a pretty good movie.

All I've seen is previews. Is it kind of like a remake of Full Metal Jacket? Using Iraq instead of Vietnam? Nothing will top the first 15 minutes of FMJ. Well maybe the first 20 minutes of SPR! R. Lee should have gotten an Academy Award for the tirade!

I've been writing pro-military columns and stories most of my life. Having had a brother and uncles who were Marines, I have a respect and admiration for "the Crotch," (another term of disparagement that jarheads I know get a kick out of.) Had Nam gone on longer, I would have probably enlisted in the Marines after college . It's the only branch of the service I would ever consider -- though I'm not sure if I would have cut it.
Anyway, you guys with your dems and liberals are too much. Like no one who ever served, fought, and died came from those persuasions. Jeez!!!
My problem is with the shameful administrations who get us into wars without any clear plan -- no matter what the party.
By the way, most of the godless liberal movie reviewers really like jarhead.
"Full Metal Jacket" is a great movie, Southpaw. My brother said his DI was like the one in the beginning. But I can't believe you condone the anti-war message in the last part of the film. Remember, Kubrick also made "Paths of Glory," another great anti-war film about the French (!!!) in WWI.

foggy i just threw that lib/dem remark in there to lighten things up, i realize there are many of yall that are pro-military and what not. so no harm intended.
having said that, yes it is very much like a modern FMJ, the only sad part is the bootcamp part in Jarhead is only about 5 minutes, not 25 like FMJ. and theres no replacing R. Lee Ermey (GySgt Hartman in FMJ).

foggy once fell off a hay wagon backwards and landed on 10 inch stake that was pounded into the ground. I won't say the location of where the stake went into his body. Use your imagination.
However, since then, any mention of liberals in a bad way has caused his "cheeks to tighten" and his "lips to pucker" and he makes sure that all in earshot hear his displeasure.
