The Sun Belt is a mess
Sun Belt Standings
Conf Overall Team W L W L
Louisiana-Monroe 3 1 3 5
Arkansas State 3 2 4 4
Louisiana-Lafayette 3 2 4 5
Troy 3 2 4 5
Middle Tennessee State 2 2 3 4
North Texas 2 2 2 6
Florida International 1 3 2 5
Florida Atlantic 1 4 1 8
With all this being the case, Louisiana Monroe wins the conference if they win out, with their schedule including games at Middle Tennessee, at North Texas, and a home game against Louisiana Lafayette. However, what happens if they lose? This would create a 3 or 4 way tie for first place in the Sun Belt. Would the team that beat LA Monroe get the title, or would it be based overall record, or what would happen? I would think it would be based upon overall record, but I am not sure. What are your thoughts, TAE?

Re: The Sun Belt is a mess
Since I go to UNT, I am going to be as honest as possible about this team, and I have seen them a lot this season, live and on the GamePlan.
North Texas has ideological problems that will never allow them to get any better. Coach Dickey has said that bowl games are for fun and "we're just happy to be here". That is the most counter-productive thing he could say to his team. For your program to get better and to get prestige, you have GOT to win games you are not supposed to win. I'm not even talking about Texas and LSU and Alabama and teams like that. I'm talking about teams like Baylor and Tulsa and Air Force. UNT sucks, flat out. They have an atrocious football program. Yes they have won the conference 4 years straight, but they are the best of a very, very, very bad lot. For them to get better, and to get an invite to Conference USA (many local teams to compete with) they have got to start winning non-conference games. Two seasons ago, UNT played a very bad Baylor team with a 1st year coach, and UNT kicked their rear-ends. That's a good win. that was the first time in Sun Belt history that a team beat a Big 12 opponent. It looked like UNT was moving up, finally. Then, last year, Baylor destroyed UNT. This year, we played home against Tulsa. Tulsa's best player did not play in the game. UNT went up 2-0, and lost 54-2. You gotta win games like that. You have got to beat those teams that are on the lower-end of I-A football, like Tulsa and Baylor and even Air Force. The people down here who are big UNT fans are completely jaded. They think UNT is on the verge of a national championship, and cannot understand why we haven't been invited to C-USA or the Mountain West. North Texas has a very big attendance problem and they also have a recruiting problem. Dickey is the best recruiter in the Sun Belt but that is like saying that Penns Manor is the class of their conference whenever the other 5 teams are Shade and Blacklick and teams like that. They are terrible. The attendance problem is very simple: they lose to teams that every-day fans have heard of. People have heard of Tulsa and Baylor, and they know those teams are not very good. So you open the paper and see a 54-2 loss whenever Ashlan Davis (best Tulsa player) didn't even participate. That is why people do not go to those games. I mean, how bad are you when you win the conference 4 years straight and still no one cares? You have got to beat teams you are not supposed to beat.
This year's team has a redshirt freshman QB who is playing because Andrew Smith was killed in a car accident. The offensive line is garbage at best. They have back to back national rushing champions in their backfield and cannot run the football. That is both because of piss-poor coaching and playcalling, and the fact that Daniel Meager really IS the worst I-A quarterback I have ever seen in my life. I'm telling you, I know it sounds ridiculous, but I cannot imagine that that kid is any better than anyone who posts on this message board. He is so bad it is almost a joke. I know I am hating on pretty hard, but you have to see this to believe it. I don't think he threw a TD pass until this week, honestly. Then you have Cobbs and Thomas, two players who I really think have had their NFL chances very hampered by nothing more than piss-poor playcalling and coaching decisions. Jamario Thomas is in my algebra class and there's been a few times already where he mentioned how they don't even play him, or give him the ball. The kid won the national rushing title. I know you have two good backs, but so did Auburn. The staff simply is clueless and uncreative and infantile.
And that team might still win their conference.
You've got to be in the Sun Belt to understand just how bad the conference really is. Monroe is awful. Lafayette is garbage. It looked like Troy was going to run the table, and they are dogcrap. Arkansas State was doing very well, and got blown out this weekend by like 45 points to Middle Tennessee State. I live right by the stadium, and I don't even want to go watch those games, because I can drive 10 miles and watch high school teams who are at least organized and look like they actually put effort into preperation for their opponent. UNT SUCKS.
