C. Dauphin knocks off Steel-High

Jalon Bransford scored 27 points, including 12 during a second-quarter outburst, as Central Dauphin opened the Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division portion of its boys' basketball schedule last night with a 57-50 conquest of visiting Steel-High.
With his team down by one (11-10) after one quarter, Bransford's personal explosion helped the Rams manufacture a 30-23 lead by intermission. Although the Rollers chipped away behind nine points from Chris Haigh, they never could sneak back in front.
Poor free-throw shooting -- 4-of-14 for the game; 2-of-8 during the fourth -- also tormented a Steel-High side that finally rolled into action following a lengthy football season. Lance Chisholm and Jerel Layman each scored 10 points for the Rollers.
Marcus Sewell backed Bransford's effort with 12.
HARRISBURG 88, CD EAST 59:
The Cougars thrilled their Manny Weaver Gym audience, stretching their mark to 3-0. Alphonso Dawson led Harrisburg with 24 points, while Ricardo Brown and Laron Williams each chipped in 15. Royce Bivens led East with 16 points.
