D6
Preseason predictions for the year. D6 champions? Players to watch? Teams to watch?
D6
A - I don't know a whole lot about this class but from what I'm hearing BC and Homer Center. I haven't really heard much about any other teams, so if you have please help out. BC vs. Homer Center finals.
AA - The early favorite has to be Bishop McCort. It would almost be a lock if Hawkins wasn't hurt with a lineup of Hawkins, Cruz, Gates and Lewis plus any other player on their roster. Mount Union may disagree and surprise like they did last year, but I believe they lost alot of their better players last year. Ligonier will make a push for the title with the best player in the Heritage Conference in Adam Stinogle running their team. McCort vs. Ligonier finals.
AAA - AAA looks to be the strongest district with 5 teams with a real shot to win the district. The early favorite has to be Johnstown. They look to make a run to St. Francis this year without a problem right? Wrong, there are many teams capable of beating the Trojans this season. Indian Valley returns 4/5 starters from last season's #2 seed team(lost to CC in the quarters) including one player standing 6'6'' and another standing near 6'10'' along with a shooting guard who can shoot the lights out. Central Cambria also returns a nucleus of players that are back from a trip to the state playoffs, only losing Sinclair, who yes scored most of their points but also shot 90% of their shots. Lewistown has their center, Stewart, back from a state playoff trip team and a sophomore guard who may be the best pure shooter in the district outside of State College. Huntington has Kozak back. CC vs. J-town in the finals.
AAAA - 2 team race just like last year, State College and Altoona. Altoona is mad that they beat State College in the district championship, and then went on to lost in the Western Final to them, only to have the Little Lions go on to win at Hershey in one of the biggest upsets in recent memory. State College returns 3 kids that have serious D-1 talent. Their PG Morris committed to PSU as a Junior and can take over a game if asked to. Norwin, who is still with the football team, is just a total force. The kid is a man amongst boys at times. They also have another 6'6'' Sophomore who has already been talked to by a few larger colleges(PSU, Pitt, etc...) and WILL be a D-1 player in the end. State College is my prediciton

Good Post Sports 999....If I may add a bit to your already very knowledgeable comments:
A- I'm hearing Blacklick Valley may be decent also
AA- Don't forget about B.Guilfoyle...They always play good defense and their tough schedule will have them battle tested
AAA- Most loaded class locally but also the classification where the area can never seem to dent the WPIAL.
AAAA- With Morse (St. Bonnie....PSU rescinded their offer), Young PG Norwood, the SOPH you mentioned and new PSU Assistant Coach Kurt Kanaskie's son (One of the top players in the State of Iowa--where his dad, a good friend of mine, was the head coach at Drake University till this year) will have not only the best talent in 6 but also perhaps in the western half of the state....again. Altoona??? Forget it....Down year...Hetz wanted out and was hoping to get the Williamsport job but that fell through....They have the big kid back but nobody to get the ball to him....they were very senior oriented.

Nice job Head Roadie. I had Guilfoyle in mind but was not sure what they had back this year, basically I feel McCort will take D-6aa only to be pasted by a team like Aliquippa if/when they were to face them. State College has a serious chance to repeat as state champs this year with all their talent. I know CC scrimmages them up there tomarrow, it could get ugly, but Norwin is still with the football team so it won't be quite as bad.
I was almost sure that when Ed Dechellis took over at PSU he would take the offer away from Morse. He is in no way a Big10 player, he is VERY good but not quite that level. Morse didn't do much through the whole state playoffs until he got to Hershey, there he was basically unconscious going for around 35 points in the victory over a MUCH better team.

Your right, they could have played Chester 10 more times and lost every one of them....most by double-digits...Was there, had seen SC play a couple times through the year and I was AMAZED...Morse was unconscious and older Norwood (now at R.Morris I think) became a D-I player through that playoff run.

Older Norwood...
The older Norwood, Gabe, is at George Mason University in VA.
I agree that State College has the most talent again in the west AAAA...However, a few other teams can challenge them.
From District 10, Erie Cathedral Prep has a very strong team. Big and athletic.
The WPIAL will feature several strong teams as well...Here are my top 10 WPIAL AAAA teams and a sentence abt each:
1. Penn Hills...Top player 6-7 AMcClain headed to Boston College, athletic
2. New Castle...Most athletic and tallest overall team in WPIAL
3. Mount Lebanon...Solid guard play will make them tough
4. Pitts CC...Good recruiting always places Vikings near the top
5. Connellsville...Best player 6-2 JHairston reminds me of Gabe Norwood
6. Pine-Richland...Best athlete in the west in Neil Walker
7. North Allegheny...They don't rebuild, they reload, good guard play
8. Chartiers Valley...Tim McConnell gets a lot from little
9. Upper Saint Clair...Combo guard Sean Lee is one of best in WPIAL
10. Shaler Area...Return every player from a team that led always-tough section 3 with 2 weeks left
Circle your calendars: State College at Shaler Area, Friday February 6, 2004. The Titans owe Morse & Co,. a lil' somethin'-somethin' after Drew Frank, in his infinite wisdon, left GNorwood in the game late just to get his highlight reel dunk against a shorthanded Shaler Area team last season in a 20 point win over the Titans. The Titans remember...
Altoona will also pay a visit to Shaler on Saturday January 3, 2004. Hetz will NOT like ringing in the New Year by playing the Titans. I say Shaler wins by 23, 47-24.
My District 6 outlook???
A--Bishop Carroll will be difficult to beat.
AA--Usually the best class in D-6...Guilfoyle will be good as will Ligonier and McCort. Westmont-Hilltop will be a darkhorse.
AAA--Deepest in recent memory of D-6. Jtown has the most athletic talent, but will be challenged by Indian Valley, Huntingdon, and Lewistown. Penn Cambria and Central Cambria will be darkhorses.
AAAA--State College, and no one else should even be close. I think that Hollidaysburg will get to the final, if they break the Mt. Lion Curse.

Penn Cambria won't make it anywhere this year in D-6AAA. Sorry WPIAL~Titan, your alma-mater will be having a down year after losing 4 starters and having only Dziabo to rely on. Stewart and either player from IV would shut him down. PC will be decent within the LHAC but won't make much noise in D-6 from what I am seeing.
