W.P.I.A.L. BOYS PLAYOFF PICTURE ....
2/4/2006 -

With one week left in the W.P.I.A.L. boy’s basketball regular season, "59" teams have already clinched a postseason berth. However there are still as many as 13 playoff spots up for grabs. Here is a section-by-section look at the W.P.I.A.L. boy’s basketball playoff picture.

BOYS CLASS (AAAA) Section #1:

* Norwin (10-2), Connellsville (10-2) and Hempfield (9-3) are all in
* Norwin will host Connellsville on Tuesday for at least a share of the section title
* Kiski Area (5-7) and Albert Gallatin (5-7) are tied for the final playoff spot. IF they end up tied, both teams will clinch after splitting two games head-to-head
* Penn-Trafford (4-8) is one game out of a playoff spot. The Warriors are 2-0 against Kiski Area and 0-1 against Albert Gallatin
* Kiski Area is at Hempfield and home to Latrobe
* Albert Gallatin hosts Penn-Trafford and is at Uniontown
* Penn-Trafford is at Albert Gallatin and home to Norwin

BOYS CLASS (AAAA) Section #2:

* McKeesport (10-2), Baldwin (8-4) and Pittsburgh Central Catholic (8-4) are all in
* McKeesport has clinched at least a tie for the section title
* Plum (8-4) will clinch a playoff spot with one more win OR a Penn Hills loss
* Penn Hills (6-6) will clinch and Plum will be out IF they beat both Plum AND Woodland Hills AND Plum loses to Pittsburgh Central Catholic

BOYS CLASS (AAAA) Section #3:

* North Allegheny (10-2) and Fox Chapel (8-4) are in
* North Allegheny has clinched at least a share of the section title
* Shaler (7-5) has a one game lead over Butler (6-6), New Castle (6-6) and Pine-Richland (6-6) for the final two spots
* Shaler is home to Pine-Richland and Fox Chapel
* Butler is home to North Hills and at New Castle
* New Castle is at Seneca Valley and home to Butler
* Pine-Richland is at Shaler and home to Seneca Valley

BOYS CLASS (AAAA) Section #4:

* Bethel Park (11-1), Mount Lebanon (10-2), Upper St. Clair (8-4) and Chartiers Valley (8-4) are all in
* Mount Lebanon plays at Bethel Park on Tuesday with the section title at stake


BOYS CLASS (AAA) Section #1:

* Hampton (10-1), Highlands (8-3), Knoch (6-4) and Valley (6-4) are all in
* Hampton has clinched the section title
* IF Mars (4-6) wins at home against Kittanning AND at Knoch PLUS if Knoch loses to Valley OR Valley loses to both Knoch AND Deer Lakes, then the Planets would also clinch a playoff spot

BOYS CLASS (AAA) Section #2:

* Hopewell (9-1), Moon (7-3), Blackhawk (7-3) and Ambridge (6-4) are all in
* Hopewell has clinched at least a share of the section title
* IF Montour (4-6) wins at home against Moon AND at West Allegheny PLUS Ambridge loses at Hopewell and home to Blackhawk, then the Spartans would make it to the postseason

BOYS CLASS (AAA) Section #3:

* Laurel Highlands (12-0), Greensburg-Salem (10-2) and Mount Pleasant (8-4) are all in
* Laurel Highlands has clinched at least a share of the section title
* Derry (5-7) and Yough (5-7) are tied for the final playoff spot. IF they end up tied, both teams will clinch after splitting two games head-to-head
* Indiana (4-8) is one game behind Derry and Yough for a playoff spot. The Little Indians are 1-1 against Yough and 0-1 against Derry
* Derry is at Belle Vernon and home to Indiana
* Yough is home to Brownsville and at Mount Pleasant
* Indiana is home to Mount Pleasant and at Derry

BOYS CLASS (AAA) Section #4:

* Elizabeth Forward (12-0) is in and has already clinched the section title
* Thomas Jefferson (8-4), South Park (8-4), Steel Valley (7-5) and West Mifflin (7-5) are all alive for the final three-playoff spots
* Both Thomas Jefferson and South Park clinch a playoff berth with one more victory
* Thomas Jefferson is home to Waynesburg and at West Mifflin
* South Park is at McGuffey and home to Keystone Oaks
* Steel Valley is at Keystone Oaks and at Elizabeth Forward
* West Mifflin is at Elizabeth Forward and home to Thomas Jefferson


BOYS CLASS (AA) Section #1:

* Jeannette (12-0), Greensburg Central Catholic (10-1) and Burrell (8-4) are all in
* Jeannette is at Greensburg Central Catholic on Friday with the section title possibly at stake
* Freeport (6-6) has a half-game lead over West Shamokin (5-6 for the final playoff spot. IF they tie, both teams will clinch after splitting two games this season
* Freeport is at Burrell and home to Ford City
* West Shamokin is at Greensburg Central Catholic, home to East Allegheny and at Apollo-Ridge

BOYS CLASS (AA) Section #2:

* Shenango (9-1), Farrell (8-3) and Mohawk (7-3) are all in
* Shenango has clinched at least a share of the section title
* Riverside (4-7) has a half-game lead over both Summit Academy (3-7) and Neshannock (3-7). Riverside is 1-1 against both Summit Academy and Neshannock while Summit Academy is 1-0 against Neshannock
* Riverside is home to Mohawk
* Summit Academy is home to Farrell and at Neshannock
* Neshannock is at Shenango and home to Summit Academy

BOYS CLASS (AA) Section #3:

* Bishop Canevin (8-2), South Fayette (8-2), Quaker Valley (8-3) and Brentwood (6-5) are all in
* Bishop Canevin is at South Fayette on Tuesday with at least a share of the section title at stake

BOYS CLASS (AA) Section #4:

* Shady Side Academy (10-0), Wilkinsburg (7-3), North Catholic (7-4) and Northgate (6-4) are all in
* Shady Side Academy has already clinched the section championship

BOYS CLASS (AA) Section #5:

* Burgettstown (9-1), Washington (9-2), Southmoreland (8-3) and Charleroi (5-5) are all in
* One more win will give Burgettstown at least a share of the section title
* IF Charleroi loses to Beth-Center AND Washington PLUS Chartiers-Houston beats Fort Cherry AND Beth-Center, then Chartiers-Houston will also qualify for the playoffs.

BOYS CLASS (AA) Section #6:

* Aliquippa (12-0), Beaver Falls (11-1), Center (9-3) and Beaver (6-6) are all in
* Aliquippa is at Beaver Falls on Tuesday for at least a share of the section title
* IF South Side Beaver (4-8) wins at home against New Brighton AND at Rochester PLUS Beaver loses at home against both Freedom AND Beaver Falls, then the Rams would also make the postseason


BOYS CLASS (A) Section #1:

* Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (9-2), Western Beaver (7-3) and Monaca (6-4) are all in
* OLSH has clinched a share of the section championship
* Sewickley Academy (6-4) can clinch a playoff spot with a at Cornell OR home against Quigley OR a Cornell loss
* Cornell (5-6) can clinch a playoff berth with a win at home against Sewickley Academy AND a Quigley win at Sewickley Academy. In that case, Cornell would be in and Sewickley Academy would be out by virtue of the Raiders 2-0 record against the Panthers

BOYS CLASS (A) Section #2:

* Carmichaels (9-2), California (8-2) and Geibel (8-2) are all in
* Carmichaels wins at least a share of the section title if they win Friday at West Greene
* Geibel is at California on Friday with a share of the section title possibly up for grabs
* Avella (5-6) has a half game lead over Mapletown (4-6) in the battle for a playoff spot. If both teams tie, then both will qualify after splitting head-to-head this season
* Avella is home to California
* Mapletown is home to West Greene and at Jefferson-Morgan

BOYS CLASS (A) Section #3:

* Serra Catholic (9-0), Clairton (7-2), Monessen (6-3) and Frazier (4-5) are all in
* Serra Catholic has clinched the section championship

CLASS (A) Section #4:

* Duquesne (7-1), Vincentian Academy (6-2) and Leechburg (5-4) are all in
* Duquesne is at Vincentian Academy on Tuesday for at least a share of the section title
* Springdale (4-5) has a half game lead over St. Joseph (3-5) for a playoff spot. If the two teams tie, both will qualify for the postseason based on splitting against each other
* Springdale is at Duquesne
* St. Joseph is at Elderton and at Vincentian Academy
