Just wanted to make sure I posted a more accurate number from the PantherLair website....

The Pitt football team concluded spring camp 2006 with the Blue-Gold spring game at Heinz Field on Saturday. The weather was perfect and 3,500 fans showed up to watch the team. The Pantherlair was there and here are 52 exclusive photos from the event.

There are more people at Curve games than that.....
There are more people at area high school football games than that....
There will be 3x more people in the parking fields at State College next week by 8:15 am than that.....

Hey. Add another thousand and you have the attendance at a Penn State men's basketball game DURING BASKETBALL SEASON, despite the FREE WIENERS and all students being on campus.

If high attendance figures won football games, then I guess PSU wouldn't only be playing .500 ball over the last 7 seasons.

just showing interst in the sport/team....

PSU hoops has little fan support, we know this. PSU hoops is like Pitt football. In basketball in our state, Pitt and the Philadelphia schools take the cake. In football, it is PSU who takes it. Attendance doesn't mean much Titan, but it does show fan support and interest.

You had to pay to get in??? Listen to this. Next saturday JoePa will be speaking at the BJC before the Blue-White game at 1 PM. The cost....$20 dollars per person!!!! Of course, you get some kind of boxed lunch, which probably cost about $4-95. Unbelievable isn't it???......Now, I had Pitt season tickets for many, many years but had to give them up. In that time I probably went to 2 spring games. Does that make me a bad fan? Does that make me a disloyal fan? Does that mean I have no interest in the team? The answer to all of these questions is NO. To imply otherwise is a joke.

Attendance at Nebraska yesterday: 57,415
Clemson- 17,000
Oklahoma- 25,000
Va Tech- 30,000+
Texas 41,200
Michigan- 15,000 (cancelled the "game" due to injuries but scrimmaged a little bit anyway)
Georgia- 18,500
Alabama- 40,000
Texas A&M- 31,000

Does it matter much? No, but it is fun to look at and has become a recruiting tool for colleges... Recruit goes to spring game A: 5,000 fans are spread out around a 60,000 seat stadium. Then he goes to game B a week later: 50,000+ fans are there in a 100,000+ seat stadium. As in regular games, this is where something like attendance really can have an effect on football. This is from huskerextra.com,

Few, if any, college football fans embrace spring scrimmages with the fervor of Nebraska devotees. Colorado, for instance, did well to draw 4,000 spectators to its spring season-ending scrimmages in 2003 and 2004, said former Buffaloes wide receivers coach Ted Gilmore.

Not bad.

“But it wasn’t 60,000-plus,” said Gilmore, the second-year Nebraska assistant who last spring watched 63,000 spectators file into Memorial Stadium for the Red-White Game. “I was in awe just like the recruits were. It’s fun. Our players get into it, and it’s great for us from a recruiting standpoint.”

***I still believe the PSU-OSU game did more for recruiting than any game in recent PSU history. Tons of kids were there that night when the crowd was insane.... I know that would get me pumped up as a kid and make me feel like this would be a fun place to play some football.
