The Coward of the County.

Even Kenny Rogers knows that Tony Dorsett is a coward. THE COWARD OF THE COUNTY... ALLEGHANY COUNTY.

Everyone considered him the coward of the county
he'd never stood one single time to prove the county wrong
his mama named him Tony, but folks just called him YELLOW

Hopefully one of these presents is a spine for Tony Dorsett.

That's right, geeks and tramps... Tony Dorsett is the coward of the county. Yesterday, in a benefit to raise money for charity, The Ticket and CashAmerica sponsored the first ever Quarterback Bowl here in Dallas, Texas, a real city as opposed to that cesspool you call a real city. If you were gonna give America an enema, you'd stick the hose right in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Aikman versus Staubach, out of retirement, and many other older players like Irvin, Drew Pearson, Hershel Walker (shut down by PSU in a bowl game), Jay Novachek, and Daryl Johnston, as well as members of The Ticket's radio broadcasts, all came together to play a flag-football game for charity. IN ATTENDANCE BUT NOT PARTICIPATING was longtime coward Tony Dorsett, who claimed "oh my back, my knee, my ankle, boo hoo all around". Dorsett was such a coward that Aikman or Novachek (I forget which) actually called him out on the radio for his excuses about how he was too old and too hurt to help a charity. "All of us are banged up. If we were gonna use excuses like that, none of us would be here." AMEN TO THAT. Here we have Dorsett, Master of Basketweaving Science, ran Walt Harris out of town, supposed Heisman winner, and now the Coward of the County. Staubach is 400 years old and is in better shape than every one of us, let alone Walker who could still play in the NFL because he is a real man and does not let cowardly excuses keep him from helping his fellow man and doing it all for charity. That's your hero right there, Pitt fans.

Just some FYI for Mr. Know-it-all TAE.....

Dorsett's career ended with a severe knee injury while a member of the Denver Broncos. I don't blame him for not playing in the charity game. Just him being there shows that he cares about the charity. If he didn't care, he wouldn't show up.

Speaking of shutting down Herschel Walker, the Panthers did just that in the Sugar Bowl as well.

You call Dorsett a "supposed" Heisman winner. Get a grip.

More than just a player

By Seth Polansky
NFL.com

(April 9, 2003) – While Tony Dorsett has been out of football for over 13 years, the onetime Dallas Cowboys great is still putting 100 percent effort into all he does. But instead of leading his team to victory, Dorsett is putting his time, effort and resources into helping out his community.

Dorsett, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1994, is not alone in his efforts. He has gotten several athletes -- including former Cowboys QB Troy Aikman, St. Louis Rams RB Marshall Faulk and Denver Broncos RB Terrell Davis -- to be part of his "No Time for Drugs" campaign, which is a program developed through D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education). The program, which will celebrate the 20th anniversary of D.A.R.E Day on April 10, encourages athletes to give back to their local communities with their time, talents and donations. By allowing athletes to pinpoint exactly where their dollars go, D.A.R.E. gives athletes the power to have a positive impact on children in their hometown.

"What I'm trying to do is create more visibility for the D.A.R.E. program through sports and entertainment," Dorsett said. "I try to get as many athletes and entertainers involved with the 'No Time for Drugs' slogan and program as I can. I just want them to give us their name, some of their time, and possibly in some regards, money. When an athlete wants to do something for his community, he has the opportunity to get involved with this D.A.R.E. program, and the benefit will be two-fold as it is good for the athlete and D.A.R.E."

Tony Dorsett had fire in his eyes as a player, but now has warmth in his heart for charity.
Dorsett not only serves as a national spokesman, but also as a mentor. He, like so many other athletes and professionals, visits schools to get up close and personal with the children. That way, they will not only see Dorsett on television or in printed materials, but they can also experience his message first-hand. It's something Dorsett takes great pride in and is happy to do every day of his life if he could.

"I want to be doing this more often. That's why I have this 'No Time for Drugs' campaign going," Dorsett said. "I think it's a great slogan and concept. I think, with help, this approach can be very helpful for our kids today."

The "No Time for Drugs" campaign also comes with an added incentive for the kids. Every graduate of the program gets a watch with the slogan on it. That way, every time the child wants to know what time it is, there is always "no time for drugs." And according to Dorsett, that also goes for alcohol and gangs.

The D.A.R.E. organization and the "No Time for Drugs" campaign are only a part of Dorsett's charity work. Dorsett is highly active with The McGuire Memorial Foundation in Pennsylvania, which provides care, shelter, programs and services to the profoundly, mentally and physically handicapped, as well as medically fragile boys and girls. And it doesn't stop there. Dorsett hosts his own charity golf tournament, now approaching its 11th year.

Not bad for a guy who just turned 49 on April 7. And he's still in the prime of his life -- Dorsett and his wife have a child on the way. Along with his son, Anthony, a seven-year veteran of the NFL, Dorsett has two daughters to provide for before the newest addition to the family arrives in a few months. Sometimes it seems charity does begin at home.

While Dorsett is out of football, he still follows the NFL as much as he can. One news item that has intrigued the Hall of Famer is Emmitt Smith's signing with the Arizona Cardinals after being released from Dallas. Dorsett and Smith have several things in common: Both were Cowboys, both were rushing champions, and both will be in the Hall of Fame. The latest comparison is both will have ended their phenomenal careers with another team.

Despite 13 wonderful seasons in Texas, Smith has headed west. Dorsett also headed west -- and a little north -- for one last season. He spent 11 years in Dallas before suiting up for the 1989 season in Denver. It was a very difficult decision, and one Dorsett still thinks about.

"It most certainly does feel different playing for another team," he said. "It takes some getting used to, looking in the mirror and seeing yourself in a different uniform. But everybody is going to remember (Smith) as a Dallas Cowboy. Once again the eyes of Texas will be upon him, but now it will be in Phoenix. I wish him well. It would have been nice for him to stay in Dallas because he meant so much to the franchise."

Just as Smith will always be looked at as a Cowboy, so too will Dorsett. And even with Dorsett's time in the league behind him, there is still plenty to do. Only now, he does it as a person and not as a player.

With a stellar NFL résumé, a wife, three children -- plus one on the way -- and donating all his spare time to helping kids, Dorsett seems to be a person who has it all -- and does it all.

Nice try, dudette. That article is over 3 years old. This another one of the bozos that accuse Penn State fans of dredging up old news to prove a point. The Quarterback Challenge, which was for charity and in which Dorsett was too much of a coward to play in, took place yesterday. Not over 3 years ago. Hey, don't yell at me, I'm not one of his former teammates that basically echoed my sentiments of him being a coward, on the air yesterday, and was serious about it. Now, if this player was a former Cowboy, maybe they know more than you do, who reads some article that is over 3 years old. Hopewell Express? More like The Yellow Streak.

Tony Dorsett is involved with countless other charities. Google that if you don't believe me.

His knee is shredded, I don't blame him for not playing in the game. He has nothing to prove. He is in the Pro and College Football Halls of Fame. He has a Super Bowl and National Championship ring as well.

The man gives countless time and money to several charities. I would love to see how much Novacek give compared to Dorsett.

Since no one was talking about the blue-white game today, I decided to check into this Quarterback Bowl. What a piece of crap!!! Sounds like some big promotion put together by some big companies under the name of charity. CashAmerica, The Ticket, Stryker (some kind of health care service), Sprint, Nextel, and Autoflex Leasing are SPONSORS for this "reunion" supposedly to raise money for charity. BUT what IS this charity???? Proceeds from ticket sales are to be donated to the winning teams favorite charity. Well, which charity was each team playing for? Save the rainforest??? Save the whales?? Homeless gays and lesbians???No wonder Dorsett stayed away. Under the guize of charity, it was just some big promotion for the companies involved. Dorsett didn't get suckered in to this scam like the Aikman's of the world did. Why should he lend his name to Sprint or to Auto Flex Leasing??? What a joke!!!

If the money went to whatever charity was being sponsored by the winning team, how was the game not for charity?

Don't blink, guys, you might miss The Yellow Streak hobbling downfield with his "shredded" knee! The should have charged an admission fee to come and see "The Knee that Refuses to Heal". Come one and come all, to witness the horror that is Tony Dorsett, who can walk perfectly, but who's knee is SHREDDED!

Jay Novacheck and Hershel Walker might not be as active in other charities as the Coward of the County, but they stepped up when all the players had the opportunity to be in the same place and compete. Remember, this is the first Quarterback Bowl, so don't expect everything to be smooth. This will happen every year now.

No one said that some of the proceeds from the BOWL did not go to charity. BUT WHICH ONE??? You get a bunch of hasbeens naming a charity to play for and you get stuff like the "Stop clubbing the seals" foundation or some other kind of environmental wacko stuff. Why don't they come out and say which charity will benefit? At least if you participate in the March of Dimes Walk-a-thon you know that the March of Dimes is benefitting. I'm sure this Bowl thing was too vague to participate in. And what's up with only the winners' deserving charity benefits?? I actually think Herschel Walker and Jay Novachek were DUPED into appearing in this event to help out Sprint, Nextel and Autoflex Leasing. After all, look at all the free advertising they got. These players were used, in a sense, for non-charity purposes, right? And one more thing, since Dallas is such a great town, do they really need this kind of crap for entertainment. Dallasites must really be starved for something to do if they consider this entertainment!!

Yeah it really is a stupid idea to get a bunch of NFL greats from your city, that played on some of the best teams in history, to get together and have a charity football game. That's retarded. No one would want to see Staubach and Aikman and Irvin and Walker and the rest of them all playing on the same field. There's thousands or better things to do in Pittsburgh, like go to one of the museums. I'm a history major and I'm telling you that once you have been to a museum once, they dont exactly change it up very often. There's rotating exhibits but that's about as radical as it gets. If going there and seeing the same mundane things 6 times a year is your cup of tea, then that explains a lot, because you had Pitt tickets for 20 years.

The more I read this topic, the smarter Dorsett looks. All those greats were SNOOKERED into this QB Bowl under the guize of charity. Dorsett was smart enough to NOT let big corporations take advantage of his name and fame FOR THEIR BENEFIT. What's the best way to get Dorsett to help sponsor Sprint, Nextel, CashAmerica, Autolease Financing, and The Ticket? Have him appear in some bogus charity game where no one knows the charity in advance. What better way to promote your business??? And then, all your effort for charity ONLY HELPS if your team wins!!!! So you're pitting the Leukemia Society against the Association for the Blind. Now that's how you run a charitable benefit.
