UPJ Majors

Post by The Ancient Enemy »

I heard that at UPJ you can make up your own major. First of all, is this true? Secondly, do they still do this?

I know there are stipulations, but this is weird as hell and I may want a degree in either professional wrestling or hating Pitt.

What makes you think you will be accepted into Pitt this time around?

My grades were pretty good the first time around, hilltop. I got accepted at every college I applied to except Pitt. UNT, Clarion, UNLV, Penn State, Univ. of Texas, Ball State, Western Kentucky.

We're talking about UPJ here, though. Branch campuses will take anybody that has the money for it.

Does a branch campus degree hold the same weight as a degree from the actual main campus?

I don't know about Pitt, but at PSU, Ohio, and Ohio State they do.

I'm not really sure. I'm mainly just curious about whether or not this rumor is even true.

I might be going out on a limb here, but I heard you can get a degree in Tree Surgery from any BRANCH campus.

What a childish post, I'm offended.

I found the answer, I just looked it up. Answer to your problems.

Degrees from Pitt branch campuses are worth just what it would be if you graduated in Oakland. I go to the Greensburg campus and the diplomas say "University of Pittsburgh" not "University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg." And I also know that at UPG there are self-designed majors. You have to go to an academic advisor to do this and it can't be anything really crazy.

Let's say you want to write for "Field and Stream" for a living. You should probably know a little biology, and a little about writing. Makes sense that you should be able to learn a little of each to make your dream come true. So you design a major to learn both disciplines. Nothing wrong with that.
