For weeks now we have been told by the Heir to the Pitt Empire, Vman, that, according to his calculations, PSU is 1-15 from 1998-2004 against teams ending the season ranked 20th in "any poll" (which many would find interesting in itself, for no major poll during that period ranks only the top 20).

It has been pointed out that the only PSU win he credits them with is incorrect, for both Miami and Texas A&M, whom PSU beat in 1999, both finished in the top 20; then Purdue, whom PSU beat in 2000, finished the season at 13 in both polls. That would bring that total to 3-15.

But an interesting question came to mind as I was spraying my rose bushes in the back yard: "What has Pitt done against teams that have finished the season ranked in the top 20 during the 1998-2004 seasons?"

Well, let's have a look (all data taken from http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com). These are the teams that Pitt played during that stretch who ended the season in the top 20, whether Pitt won or lost, and where each team ended in either the AP or Coaches polls.

1998:

Pitt lost to: PSU (ranked 17 AP, 15 Coaches); V. Tech (ranked 19 coaches); Miami (ranked 20 AP).

1999:

Pitt lost to: PSU (ranked 11 AP, 11 Coaches); V. Tech (ranked 2 AP, 3 Coaches); Miami (ranked 15 AP, 15 Coaches).

2000:

Pitt lost to: V. Tech (ranked 6 AP, 6 Coaches); Miami (ranked 2 AP, 2 Coaches).

2001:

Pitt lost to: Miami (ranked 1 AP, 1 Coaches); Syracuse (ranked 14 AP, 14 Coaches).

Pitt won against: V. Tech (ranked 18 AP, 18 Coaches).

2002:

Pitt lost to: Notre Dame (ranked 17 AP, 17 Coaches); Miami (ranked 2 AP, 2 Coaches); WVU (ranked 20 Coaches).

Pitt won against: V. Tech (ranked 18 AP, 14 Coaches).

2003:

Pitt lost to: Miami (ranked 5 AP, 5 Coaches)

2004:

Pitt lost to: Utah (ranked 4 AP, 5 Coaches).

The A&M final rating was explored in detail! They did, in fact, finish 20th in the AP but were well out of top 20 in UPI, ESPN. Computer & Sagarin!
Finishing like 23rd, 26th and even 32nd in one!

Confirming my general point: 'till '05 UPS lost basically every big game they played(but still talk up their difficult schedule) Translation: Since we(UPS) do, in fact, lose most all "big" Big 10 contest; we'll schedule the weakest ooc games in the country and meekly hide behind the veil of our tough big 10 schedule!

A quick check reveals the following: In'98 only 2 Panther wins (we were bad) and lost to UPS 20-13: '99 -Lost @ Beve' Stad. to a ranked UPS squad 20-17 but beat ND 37-27; '00 - lost to like #4 Va Tech @ Blacksburg 37-34; beat the Nitwits, beat a ranked BC team and a ranked WVU team! '01 - payed well but fell to NC Miami, beat ranked Va Tech 38-7, Beat ranked NC St. in bowl34-19. '02 - beat ranked BC 19-16, ranked Va Tech 28-21, lost @ very good Miami team 28-21, beat ranked Or. St. team 38-13 in bowl!!! '03 - @ ranked BC won 24-13, beat ranked Va Tech 31 -28!! '04- beat ranked WVU & BC 16-13 & 20-17!!

THAT COMPUTES TO LIKE 11 WINS VS RANKED TEAMS IN PERIOD OF QUESTION!!!!! I mean now that is a joke! I have admitted several times that Bradley had kicked Pitts tail in recruiting, during this period; so therefore, with inferior talent and a since discarded coach, PITT wins like 11 huge games to the Nitwits 1 !!!!!!

Again, you have completely changed your standards.

For example, you claim that in 2004 Pitt beat "ranked" WVU and BC teams.

WVU AND BC DID NOT END THE SEASON RANKED IN THE TOP 20.

You yourself set the Top 20 standard, for when I mentioned that when PSU beat Nebraska in 2007 they were ranked #7 in the country.

You responded to the likes of: "Well, they didn't finish the season ranked in the top 20 so it doesn't count."

So now has the standard changed??

And further:

You state that in 1999 Pitt beat Notre Dame. Ok, they did, but NOTRE DAME DID NOT FINISH THE 1999 SEASON RANKED.

So what we have here is this: You, or your buddy researcher, have been shown wrong. You, or your buddy researcher, use/used one standard of evaluation first to get what you wanted, but when your measure is used against your team, Pitt, to show that they fared no better during the same period, you all of a sudden adjust the measure.
