District 5 Soccer for 2006 Boys Season
How does everyone see this coming fall season going as it looks like it will be really wide open as a number of teams have a good chance at making a push for the district title , but at the same time each team it seems would have some major flaws.
I would say if i had to guess the standings should look something like this , but i will admit i know very little about Johnstown Christian,Windber,North Star and Salisbury.
1.Rockwood: They are the defending champs and have lost very little to graduation which makes them the favorite to win it all , they however have trouble beating even weak teams when they have away games.
2.Johnstown Christian: They were a solid team last year , nothing great , but they lost very little to graduation other than that i know nothing about them.
3.Berlin: Has usually been very competitive and they have a good goalkeeper , other than that again i don`t know a lot about them.
4.Conemaugh Twp.: They lost a lot to graduation and were very average last year , but they will profit this year because the district is very weak this year.
5.McConnellsburg: Lost 4 starters to graduation and 2 more that apparently aren`t coming out to play this fall and those 2 would be midfield players.
So, they lost their entire midfield and will have to rely on their solid defense and play a lot of kick and run since they have no mid to distribute the ball.
6.Forbes Road : Lost a very good player , but have a lot of starters coming back.
Attitude will be a huge question mark as some of their key players have attitude problems and they are major problems, will probably win slightly over 1/2 their games.
7.Fannett-Metal : Lost their goalkeeper and have no one else to play the position , so that could really hurt them.
If they get someone that can play it they will move up at least 2-3 spots in the standings.
8.Windber : Usually not real good or real bad , so it will probably be more of the same.
9.North Star : Will contend for a playoff spot like last year and like last year will come up a little short.
10.Hyndman : Will be a little better than last year , but not much.
They have a decent offense , but have serious problems on defense and in the goal.
11.Northern Bedford: Will fall hard following the best year in their soccer history.
Lost a lot from all areas of the field , but i think their coach will keep them somewhat competitive.
12.Everett : More of the same from this school.
They have a decent coach and are making strides , but losing Banner Mann will hurt in more ways than just replacing the goals he scored.
13.Salisbury: Are always bad and see no reason to expect them to be anything better this year.

FM should be much higher ranked than that. They will easily out do Forbes and McBurg if it is true about them losing so many players. I dont know much about most of the higher ranked teams but i can tell you they gave Rockwood a good fight in the semi's. Also with FM only losing 3 seniors, 2 of which werent really assets to last years team. But yes the loss of Campbell in goal will hurt. However a replacement is already training for that position and with the addition of a very talented group of freshman next year, FM soccer should be a very tough team.

Fannett added some tough teams to their non-league schedule this season to better prepare for the post season. West Perry(AA), Shippensburg(AA) and Rockwood. If the Tigers can replace Campbell at the goal, they will contend for the title.

TarheelHopeful i think crazyplayer stated that if a competent keeper was found then Fannett would move up in the rankings.
Saying they have one and that person actually doing well under varsity competition are 2 very different things.
Also, saying they would easily outdo Forbes and McCburg i would say is being a bit arrogant considering that they were still knocked out by them.
I hope Fannett does well , but to say they will definetly do this or that is very premature.
Any coach will agree that if you have a problem in the goal it can turn a great team into a good team, a good into average, and an average team into a poor team.
I would say by the looks of things your games with McCburg and Forbes should be interesting as yes you did beat both teams last year , but you by no means dominated either team as a matter of fact those games could have gone to either team as wins.

Also, in regards to a good incoming 9th grade group i really doubt that they will make a huge impact in the games as they are only 9th graders.
In recent years i have seen very few 9th graders make an impact and they have been very good players to do that such as Cory Hall -Forbes,JJ Grace -McCurg,Evan Mellott -McCburg,Donovan McGee -Fannett,Dan Oberman-NBC.
You get the point , don`t expect too much this year from them.

I in no way intended to sound arrogant. I just feel that FM will have a more solid team than the other two mentioned. And as far as the freshman, they will solidify spots and add much needed depth. As they are a very athletic bunch. I dont see any of them being all-stars next year but they will add another dimension to the team. Last years team consisted of primarily freshman and sophomores and they did alright. Hopefully this next group can only add more success. Only time will tell.

And also I totally agree on the keeper comment. And the loss of Campbell is a tremendous one, however it has been said that a replacement has already been found and is training for next season. Hopefully he can fill the shoes left behind.

Trust me TarHeel i hope someone from over this way wins the D5 title as well and i will agree that thru the entire field Fannett is solid all the way around , we were that way back in the 03-04 school year and we lost 4 starters to injuries.
We still made it to the semis and got beat in 4 overtimes with about 4 minutes left in the last one , so while we still won a lot of games the injuries did come back to hurt us in the end and Fannett needs to avoid them to make a good run.
I wish them luck in doing so and maybe this year someone can bring a title to the Franklin/Fulton County area.
