The Insanity Continues

Post by frostlion »

Since around here we all love the Saragin rakings, especially when they are used to tear apart PSU's OCC schedule, but only to ignore them when it shows the Big East stinks, Saragin has released a pre-season ranking. Funny how a computer simulation can do this when no games or stats have been compiled.

Such much a difference in the rankings of WVU, Notre Dame, VTech, from their standing in the AP and USA Today polls...

Take a close look at the men's NCAA D1 basketball Sagarins and you have even greater insanity in that PSU is even a D1 basketball team...

They'd be better suited to apply for admission to the PSAC so they could play with Lock Haven and Clarion.

Are you readdyyyy for Eddieeee??? ...OR in football terms...ARE you Readddy for JayPaaa????

I can't wait to see the "Are you readdyyyy for JayPaaaa?" Billboards as I drive over the Cresson Mountain!

I can't wait until Pitt gives up 800 yards offense to both Louisville and WVU this year. What a great time that will be!

Again, since frostlion brought it up, Akron is ranked 101 by Sagarin in the pre-season. TEN I-aa teams are ranked higher. Even Syracuse, which was 1-10 last year, is ranked 72nd. Tell us again how good Akron is.

I didn't bring Saragin up to make a point about any team being better than any other team, but to suggest how stupid the whole pre-season ranking business is, and to question how a computer simulation can do this prior to any games being played.

Reading comprehension is essential.

Since we all love pre-season polls, SI has Akron ranked higher than Pitt. I guess that means Akron is better than Pitt.

Reading comprehension is essential??? You didn't bring up Sagarin to make a point???? Then what was the point of THIS comment about pre-season polls: "only to ignor them when it shows the Big East stinks"???? So you didn't "make a point about any team being better than any other team"? Ya. Right.

Every single shot you sPitters take against PSU's OCC schedule is based on the Saragin ratings. Not only for this year, but for next year.

"Oh, Akron is ranked 116, Temple is ranked 132...." or whatever they happen to be ranked.

On one hand, the Saragin ratings are used to show one point. On the other hand, meaning when ever they show, as does the pre-season Saragin poll of both teams and conferences, that the savior of the Big East, WVU is ranked 18 and that no other Big East team is ranked in the top 15, it's "Saragin who???"

Let me put it this way: At least the Harris poll waits until something like week 5 before they begin. That allows a much larger group of teams a legitimate shot at contending for the national title, teams that have perhaps been overlooked by the national media who are so focused on Notre Dame, Ohio State, USC, etc.

You are the one who brought up PRE-SEASON polls. They are just an educated guess on who will be good and who isn't supposed to be. I don't believe most people on here put alot of stock in these polls. But at least sagarin has some kind of system that gives him info to set up his rankings. I have more faith in his system than in coaches and sports writers giving us THEIR opinion.

Well if us sPitters are going to be accused of using Sagarin to take shots @ UPS' ooc schedule let's get it right (keeping in mind there are 119 DI squads): Temple 139, Fla Int. 172, Buffalo 173. With those three home games you should be forced to play Ohio St., Mich., Iowa & the NFC East to compensate for that debacle of weak sister hosting!!
