Forest Hills @ Bedford
Forest Hills @ Bedford
Ham is back in time this week to write up his preview for this heavyweight, titanic matchup that always blesses us in week 3 every year in the LHAC!
Forest Hills comes into Bisons Stadium(I changed it for those that have a problem with BISON) this Friday night in the annual matchup that usually pits the front runners for their section in the LHAC annually. One team enters with a 1-1 record, and one enters perfect. If you had to ask people who would own those records coming into this game BEFORE the season, the rolls would be reversed. But a thrilling win for Bedford in week 1 over McCort was as elating to the Crushers last Friday in Sidman, as they scored a game winning touchdown in the final minute of the game...
Bedford comes into this game after trouncing always down Somerset 41-0. The defense that came to play in week 1 showed up with improvements to the weakspots that had shown vs. McCort and shut down any and all drives from the Eagles.
Bedford's defense has forced 8 turnovers this year. 4 via interceptions and 4 from fumbles. This attribute from the Bisons will come in handy vs. a very secure ball handling team in FH. Forcing Rearick into bad, quick decisions will be huge in this game. Bedford was able to create pressure up the middle and from the outside using linebackers and defensive ends in an effective scheme in week 1 and 2. Jesse Toppers ability to call the correct defensive plays at the correct times in the game on Friday will have to be on key to slow down the FH passing attack.
FH has playmakers abound in their offense. Rearick is a game breaker and can make the impossible throws look routine. Of course helping him on the outside is a solid core of WR's, led by Carpenter. Look for FH to go to the "look" pass routes, and try to suck the Bedford DB's up early in the game to set up a vertical attack later in the game.
Bedford has skill players that have done nothing but make plays thus far in '06. The ability of the WR's this year might be even more impressive and called upon than the WR's of the '05 team. They are called upon more as Bedford has moved to a more balanced attack this year, with gunslinger Pistol Pete Westwood leading the Bisons attack. Levi Clapper leads the team with 2 INT's coupled with a 30 plus yard receiving catch last week vs. Somerset. Zach Forgas caught the game winning touchdown vs. Bishop McCort in week 1. He also forced a pick in that game, and he, along with Clapper, has played the way you're supposed to play WR in the Bedford offense to a "T"; Block the run well, catch passes in big situations when you're called upon.
Once again the game comes down to the Big Uglies. It has been won upfront in the past, and this year will be nothing different. Bedford has to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball to win in this game. The D-line has to play as well as it did vs. McCort in the opener, and FH has to play better than what they did last week vs. the Crushers. I feel this will be the difference maker in the game this week. McCort controlled the Rangers in the 2nd half upfront last week. Bedford more than held it's own vs. the Crushers in week 1, and I think this spells trouble for the FH faithful. If the big guys for Bedford play as well this week as they have the first 2 weeks of the season, and let Feaster get loose vs. the FH LB's and DB's, look out. He has the speed and toughness of a Troy Harris that the Rangers had trouble stopping for 2 years when he was a Bison. The only difference is, Feaster doesn't touch the ball every down like Harris did. Bedford should try to get Feaster the ball 20+ times each game, not including kick and punt returns. I'm sure Bailey has been gameplanning on how to stop number 3 since he was in attendance at Bedford's first game...
And it should be very effective... until the second half. Bedford will run Groat, Henry, Jaber up the middle all night long, and spring Feaster to the outside, wether it be on running plays or lineing him up at WR at various points in the night. He is a player to watch and keep an eye on throughout the night to see how Bedford decides to use him.
Bedford has every chance in the world to take the LHAC "by the balls" this weekend if it should knock off FH. But as the series goes between Bedford and FH, the underdog ALWAYS stands a chance. People thought Forest Hills was the favorite in the past 2 years, and the Bisons have come out on top in each of those two years. Maybe this is the year that things change? Or maybe Bedford can run it's tally to 3 years in a row vs. the Rangers. If the Bisons play well up front, get Feaster the ball as much as they should, and stop the FH passing attack, and take care of the football they should win this game. If they turn the ball over and allow Rearick to pick appart the D, it's gonna be a long long night for the Bisons.
But that shouldn't happen. Bedford forces FH to have 3 turnovers and Feaster returns a punt for a TD for the Bisons in another hard hitting classic between the two rivals!

i think FH should win this game....esp. after the near miss up at sidman...i think bedford loses if mccort didnt think it was Christmas on week 1 and wrapped the game up with a big fat bow and hand it to them(Bedford), mccort would be the front runner and bedford and fh would be fighting for second place..however.... some aspects of both teams look impressive...i thought FH would have beaten mccort on the pass and rubbed it in thier face with the run, but that didnt happen after the first drive....i think this is a close one...not as close as both the mccort games...but close...FH wins this one eh...24-17

I don't want to get into a wrestling argument with you in a football forum Hogg. But CR could win every match with Bedford for the rest of your life, and they still wouldn't have more wins in the series then Bedford does.
As far as the game between Bedford and CR. I'll take Bedford by at least 20.
Now about the FH and Bedford game friday. It has the potential to be a great game. FH passing against the Bedford run. I can't wait. This is always my favorite game of the year. I'm taking Bedford in a close one at home.
