More Paterno Insanity.
A few days ago, a good friend of mine said that during Saturday's game, Paterno said that he'd be around "a long time". That made me sob out of control. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and no it is not the light in Anthony Morelli's skull, because that light is very, very dim.
THE BAD NEWS:
- Paterno has 2 more years on his contract.
- Rumor has it Joe has been dropping some names for who he wants to take over the job. It starts with a J and ends with a Y. There's an A in the middle.
- Anthony Morelli will be the starting quarterback next season because of Paterno's psychotic devotion to upperclassmen who "earned" the right to play. Watch Austin Scott lead the Heisman candidates with 60 yard game averages while he's still timid, slow, and weak.
THE GOOD NEWS:
- The offensive coaches are publicly saying that things need to change.
- Penn State is adding on to Beaver Stadium. Again. This means there's at least a few people who realize how much money success makes.
- Paterno only has 2 more years on his contract. A reliable source has told Your Literary Hero there is "no way in Hell" they are renewing that contract.
- Bradley has a lot of patience.
- Another reliable source has told me that a few of the biggest donors to PSU have already said that if Jay Paterno takes over, the money is stopping.
THE WHATEVER NEWS:
- The name I am hearing for Paterno's replacement is Kirk Ferentz. I have an opinion on this, but I think it can go either way with whether or not this is a smart decision.

My opinion on Ferentz is this... first of all, I dont think PSU can sustain another loss with Bradley the way they lost Sandusky. With Bradley, he is a very good recruiter and a defensive genius. He deserves the shot to see if he can bec a great head coach. My opinion is yes, he can. My opinion is that Ron Vanderlinen will take over as defensive coordinator. Vanderlinen was the d-coordinator for Northwestern when Pat Fitzgerald was there, and obviously he is a linebacker mastermind. Can he recruit? I guess he can, pretty well. Now to Ferentz... here is a PA guy who had some success at Iowa. I think he is pretty overrated, but I know he loves the state of Pennsylvania and I DO think he would be a much bigger asset to a PA school than to a school in the middle of nowhere in Iowa. Recruiting wise, I think you see a boost in PA as opposed to his recruiting in Iowa, but I am not at all sold on his clout. I feel like the successor battle all hinges on 2007 and 2008. If they struggle, look for PSU to dump the money on the table for an NFL coach or someone like Ferentz. If they do pretty well, I think Bradley has a better chance of taking over.

Happy T'Day & a couple of thoughts re your post! We know I'm far from a UPS fan so I obviously have no agenda here! I do know Tom B & would like to see him get job but in conversation approx. one yr. ago with someone more tenured than he they told me that Joe's mission was to pass torch to his son & had been so for years!
I brought up the name K. Ferentz in this discussion & it was pointed out that Iowa had recently signed him to a lucrative long term deal...but we all know how binding contracts are these days.
And the Pgh Post recently ran story where Joe, obviously in response to recent physical occurrences, told the squad he would be there to coach all of them thru their careers; meaning @ least three more years.
My bottom line analysis: Joe has a Moe Green like complex( that is he thinks he is going to live nearly forever) or @ least long enough to have a few more glory years so that no one can question his appointment of Jay as his heir!
