McCort vs. Wilmington
THE game is Friday night at Slippery Rock
Anyone know anything at all about this team?
Chops you seem to find out some stuff got any opinions about this team?
I watched McCort and I watched Jeanette on FSN and McCort is as good as that team.....But thats looking ahead...I hear Wilmington has a RB thats tough but McCort hasnt allowed a 100yd rusher in a year and a half soo???
Im willing to listen to some insight on this team and this game?

i ddint want to look ahead im concerned with Wilmington
but i didnt see tooo many good players outside of Terrelle Pryor(possibly the next great Panther SF and OB??)
he looks like a Vince Young type player out there
and i hear hes a Tmac type player of the hardwood
hes a terrific athlete and will be playing one of those sports for a long time coming
but i do think McCort can play with them

Wilmington runs some kind of wing-t offense...You can see for yourself on YouTube.com I saw them play in person against Ford City in the first game of the year so I don't know how much they've improved since then.
And yes, they do have a quick shifty RB. Besides him, they don't have many another great weapons. They are decently big but there is no doubt McCort can handle them.

District #10 Playoffs: Wilmington
to begin title run against Corry
Part one is done and in the books for the Wilmington High School football team.
After 10 weeks of regular-season play that all ended in victories, chapter two is ready to be written. The Greyhounds are headed to the playoffs and they are hoping for a happy ending to this story.
Wilmington (10-0) will begin its voyage to a District #10 Class (AA) championship when it squares off against Corry at 7 p.m. Saturday at Slippery Rock University.
“I think we are playing our best football right now,” Greyhounds coach Terry Verrelli said. “It’s the type of group that very easily understands things and feels that that’s the regular season. What we did has no bearing on the postseason.
“These kids are very level-headed and we have to be prepared.”
Corry (6-4) finished 3-3 in Region 4-AA to earn an at-large playoff berth. The Beavers are 1-3 against Class AA playoff teams, topping Grove City 12-0 while losing to Fairview (8-0), Seneca (27-25) and Harbor Creek (13-12).
The Greyhounds, champions of Region 3-AA, finished 6-0 in the loop.
This is the first meeting between the schools.
Corry likes to run the football, led by Paul Flick, a 6-foot senior running back. Flick registered a team-best 668 rushing yards on 178 attempts and six touchdowns.
“He’s more of an outside type runner with good speed,” Verrelli said. “He seems to be their main back.”
The Beavers, operating mostly out of an I-formation, will spread it out on occasion and go into a shotgun formation. Brenden Carney, a 6-1, 182-pound senior quarterback, is 25 of 83 for 458 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions.
“When they pass, they like to roll out and throw,” Verrelli said. “It’s really not their game, though. They are more of a ball control type of team.”
Corry, losers of two straight, surrendered 100 points during the regular season, an average of 10 per contest. Kyle Gates leads the defense with 97 tackles and Craig Catalfu has a team-best five sacks.
“They’re a 4-3 team and they like to show a cover-2 look (in the secondary),” Verrelli said. “They are pretty solid and like to move around.”
Senior quarterback Jake Reiber directs the Greyhounds’ attack. Reiber is 49 of 90 for 780 yards with 11 touchdowns and just three interceptions.
“Reiber is very good,” Corry coach Homer DeLattre said. “He’s quick and is able to run the ball.
“He also does a good job with the play-action pass. He’s got a good release.”
Junior running back Chris Burns leads the county in rushing (936 yards on 108 attempts) and in scoring (124 points, including 20 touchdowns).
“Burns is very quick and explosive,” DeLattre said. “He hits the hole hard and he does a lot on contact.
“He spins well and eludes tacklers well. We have to get all 11 guys to the ball because if we don’t, it could be a long night.”
Wilmington, which operates out of the wing-T, is averaging 36.4 points per game.
“The way they are able to mix inside traps and the outside plays, they have a big bag of plays,” DeLattre said. “We have to be very disciplined on defense.
“They are very explosive and they do a good job on special teams, too. If we make a mistake, we’ll be in trouble.”
The Greyhounds’ defense is also playing at a championship level. The unit is allowing just 6.6 points a game, while posting four shutouts.
“Their front four is as good if not better than we’ve seen all year,” DeLattre said. “The linebackers aren’t big, but they get to the ball well. It seems like they have 15 guys out there, they get to the ball so quickly.”
Wilmington is not only dominating on the gridiron, but also in the classroom. Four juniors — Lou Campbell, Collin Fulkman, Brandon Palladino and Nick Riggall — were inducted into the National Honor Society on Tuesday.

Sharon are ready for Round #2
It’s not easy to defeat the same team twice in one season.
But that’s the task facing the Wilmington High football team, which will take on Sharon in the District #10 Class (AA) semifinals. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at Slippery Rock University.
The Greyhounds, ranked fifth in the latest PIAA poll, lead the series 10-6, including a 42-7 win on Oct. 20. This will mark the fourth time the teams have met in the playoffs. The previous three came in the District 10 championship game.
“It’s always difficult to play a team a second time, especially when you won the first game,” Wilmington coach Terry Verrelli said. “Sharon has a lot of talent.”
Victory isn’t a given for the Greyhounds considering their past history with Sharon. In 1999, Wilmington won the regular season battle 28-10, but dropped a 13-6 verdict in the District 10 title tilt. Wilmington has won the last three meetings with the Tigers.
“There’s no question it’s a big rivalry and what’s at stake makes it even bigger,” Verrelli said. “You have two teams playing and we want to go in with the right attitude and be prepared.”
The winner will take on the survivor of the Fairview-Grove City game for the championship. The time, date and site will be determined by District 10.
Last week, the Greyhounds (11-0) advanced with a 35-8 triumph over Corry while the Tigers (8-2) moved on with a 14-0 decision over Harbor Creek.
In the first meeting with the Greyhounds, Sharon recorded just one first down and got its lone touchdown on an interception return. The Tigers amassed just 26 total yards.
“We played a great defensive game the last time and a good offensive game, too,” Verrelli said. “You have to forget that game and be prepared for some different things from them.”
Senior quarterback Desmonde Jennings directs the Sharon offense. He has completed 16 of 54 passes for 204 yards with two touchdowns and seven interceptions.
“They are running a lot of shotgun type offense and he can run and throw,” Verrelli said. “That’s the offense that everybody seems to be running. If you have someone that can run it, it makes you more dangerous.”
Kellen Harris, a senior running back, is Sharon’s leading rusher with 532 yards and nine touchdowns on 141 attempts.
“Harris is a big kid and a great athlete,” Verrelli said.
The Tigers’ defense has four shutouts, including a season-opening forfeit win over Farrell.
“Sharon shows an odd man front,” Verrelli said. “They like to keep the linebackers in the box and stop the run. They are pretty quick defensively.”
Wilmington, which operates out of the wing-T formation, averages 36.2 points per contest.

“It’s tough stopping Wilmington,” Sharon coach Bob Fromm said following the regular season meeting. “They have some athletes and they are coached very well.”
The Greyhounds’ defense has posted four shutouts and allows just 6.7 points a game. Last week, Corry scored its only points in the game’s waning moments.
“This is one of the best Wilmington teams I’ve seen,” Fromm said. “They’ve had some very good teams and this one is right up there with their best.”

“When they pass, they like to roll out and throw,” Verrelli said. “It’s really not their game, though. They are more of a ball control type of team.”
Corry, losers of two straight, surrendered 100 points during the regular season, an average of 10 per contest. Kyle Gates leads the defense with 97 tackles and Craig Catalfu has a team-best five sacks.
“They’re a 4-3 team and they like to show a cover-2 look (in the secondary),” Verrelli said. “They are pretty solid and like to move around.”
Senior quarterback Jake Reiber directs the Greyhounds’ attack. Reiber is 49 of 90 for 780 yards with 11 touchdowns and just three interceptions.
“Reiber is very good,” Corry coach Homer DeLattre said. “He’s quick and is able to run the ball.
“He also does a good job with the play-action pass. He’s got a good release.”
Junior running back Chris Burns leads the county in rushing (936 yards on 108 attempts) and in scoring (124 points, including 20 touchdowns).
“Burns is very quick and explosive,” DeLattre said. “He hits the hole hard and he does a lot on contact.
“He spins well and eludes tacklers well. We have to get all 11 guys to the ball because if we don’t, it could be a long night.”
Wilmington, which operates out of the wing-T, is averaging 36.4 points per game.
“The way they are able to mix inside traps and the outside plays, they have a big bag of plays,” DeLattre said. “We have to be very disciplined on defense.
“They are very explosive and they do a good job on special teams, too. If we make a mistake, we’ll be in trouble.”
The Greyhounds’ defense is also playing at a championship level. The unit is allowing just 6.6 points a game, while posting four shutouts.
“Their front four is as good if not better than we’ve seen all year,” DeLattre said. “The linebackers aren’t big, but they get to the ball well. It seems like they have 15 guys out there, they get to the ball so quickly.”
Wilmington is not only dominating on the gridiron, but also in the classroom. Four juniors — Lou Campbell, Collin Fulkman, Brandon Palladino and Nick Riggall — were inducted into the National Honor Society on Tuesday.

Sharon are ready for Round #2
It’s not easy to defeat the same team twice in one season.
But that’s the task facing the Wilmington High football team, which will take on Sharon in the District #10 Class (AA) semifinals. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at Slippery Rock University.
The Greyhounds, ranked fifth in the latest PIAA poll, lead the series 10-6, including a 42-7 win on Oct. 20. This will mark the fourth time the teams have met in the playoffs. The previous three came in the District 10 championship game.
“It’s always difficult to play a team a second time, especially when you won the first game,” Wilmington coach Terry Verrelli said. “Sharon has a lot of talent.”
Victory isn’t a given for the Greyhounds considering their past history with Sharon. In 1999, Wilmington won the regular season battle 28-10, but dropped a 13-6 verdict in the District 10 title tilt. Wilmington has won the last three meetings with the Tigers.
“There’s no question it’s a big rivalry and what’s at stake makes it even bigger,” Verrelli said. “You have two teams playing and we want to go in with the right attitude and be prepared.”
The winner will take on the survivor of the Fairview-Grove City game for the championship. The time, date and site will be determined by District 10.
Last week, the Greyhounds (11-0) advanced with a 35-8 triumph over Corry while the Tigers (8-2) moved on with a 14-0 decision over Harbor Creek.
In the first meeting with the Greyhounds, Sharon recorded just one first down and got its lone touchdown on an interception return. The Tigers amassed just 26 total yards.
“We played a great defensive game the last time and a good offensive game, too,” Verrelli said. “You have to forget that game and be prepared for some different things from them.”
Senior quarterback Desmonde Jennings directs the Sharon offense. He has completed 16 of 54 passes for 204 yards with two touchdowns and seven interceptions.
“They are running a lot of shotgun type offense and he can run and throw,” Verrelli said. “That’s the offense that everybody seems to be running. If you have someone that can run it, it makes you more dangerous.”
Kellen Harris, a senior running back, is Sharon’s leading rusher with 532 yards and nine touchdowns on 141 attempts.
“Harris is a big kid and a great athlete,” Verrelli said.
The Tigers’ defense has four shutouts, including a season-opening forfeit win over Farrell.
“Sharon shows an odd man front,” Verrelli said. “They like to keep the linebackers in the box and stop the run. They are pretty quick defensively.”
Wilmington, which operates out of the wing-T formation, averages 36.2 points per contest.
Senior quarterback Jake Reiber engineers the explosive Wilmington attack. Reiber is 53 of 95 for 835 yards with 12 touchdowns and just three interceptions.
Junior running back Chris Burns paces the county in rushing (1,018 yards on 115 attempts) and in scoring (136 points, including 22 touchdowns).
“It’s tough stopping Wilmington,” Sharon coach Bob Fromm said following the regular season meeting. “They have some athletes and they are coached very well.”
The Greyhounds’ defense has posted four shutouts and allows just 6.7 points a game. Last week, Corry scored its only points in the game’s waning moments.
“This is one of the best Wilmington teams I’ve seen,” Fromm said. “They’ve had some very good teams and this one is right up there with their best.”

Well McCort should win this game, considering Wilmington is from District 10, and they should make it to the Western Final. They most likely will not beat Jeanette, and if the rules like last year still applied, they probably wouldnt have made it to the Western Final, since they are facing the easier team this week...(just like in '02 when FH faced Brockway.)
