State College, Pa., Nov. 26, 2003 - Penn State Head Wrestling Coach Troy Sunderland today announced the addition of two wrestlers during the early signing period which began Nov. 13. Penn State, currently ranked No. 14 by InterMat, received written commitments from Jake Strayer (Forest Hills High School/South Fork, Pa.) and Neil Bretz (Cumberland Valley High School/Carlisle, Pa.).

Strayer is a three-time Pennsylvania State Championship placer and 2002 champion. Projected as a 125 or 133 pound collegian, he brings a 119-7 career record into his senior season at Forest Hills High. Strayer placed third at 119 pounds at the PIAA Championships last season after winning the 103-pound title as a sophomore. He was eighth as a freshman. He has lost just one match each of the last two years going 45-1 with 25 pins last year and 40-1 in 2002. He has three District 6 titles and three regional championships to his credit.

Bretz is a two-time PIAA Championship qualifier who placed sixth in 2003. He won a regional championship as a sophomore and was runner-up in the region and sectional champion last year. He brings a career record of 101-21 into his senior campaign at Cumberland Valley High School, having posted a 41-4 mark at 160 pounds last year. He set a Cumberland Valley record with 123 takedowns as a sophomore and was named the team's Outstanding Dual Meet Wrestler. He is a two-time Manheim Tournament champion and placed seventh at the 2002 MAWA Nationals. He is projected as a 174-184 pound collegiate wrestler
