You'd Want this Kid in your Locker Room.

A few weeks ago, I posted a thread asking "Would You Want this Kid in Your Locker Room?" It was referring to Sam McGuffie, a RB from Cypress, Texas. In an interview, McGuffie verbally ran-down a lot of players already at the college level (at a major program at that), and talked as if he was God's gift to whatever program babied him enough, and was seemingly "lucky enough", to get his commitment. So I ran across a small interview with Washington, PA MLB Andrew Sweat, who recently narrowed his list of top-caliber programs to six. I was glad to see Penn State in the mix, and here is why. I figured it would be good to show McGuffie's attitude and then Sweat's. Here's what Sweat said:

“I can pretty much play anywhere, wherever I’m needed. My freshman year I started at safety. I played fullback, running back and tight end and I’m going to be playing quarterback this year. I know I can do whatever coaches need me to. I want to work on furthering my understanding of the game for the next level. It’s important to learn to mature mentally as well as physically. Also, I’d like to run a consistent 4.4 forty. Speed and agility are things I will always try to be better at. I think my ability to read and react is my strength. I get to the ball very fast."

That right there is a kid who should be a major target for Penn State or anyone else. You don't see this kid coming off like an 18 yr old prima-donna who let overly-flattering coach-diatribe go to his head, and is gracing you with his presence. I was impressed with how Sweat, who is very highly recruited, handled that opportunity to talk about himself. That's a kid who loves football and appreciates it, and appreciates the attention it has gotten him. I would love to see Penn State get this kid. Either way, I hope he has a great career.
